Introduction In this project, we are introduces to structural theory, force calculation and basic structural proposal. By exposed to the component involved, we are allowed to understand and gain demonstration of knowledge of building structure. At first, we have visited Uncle Tay’s house situated in Klang. Documentation of measurement drawings are done to identify the structural elements of the building and we are to propose a renovation works from there on. Through this we are able to recognize, execute and implement basic procedures of building structure design. In this individual component, we are to design the renovation work by selecting appropriate structural members to frame the extension. Load acting on the structure is identified and quantified after the design is done. In the end, the structure is analyzed to determine the sizing of structural components.
Design brief An extension is proposed based on the requirement and the area is not to exceed 150 m2. The extension is extended sideway of two storeys height to enlarge the compound of house and provide more activity space to the user. At the ground floor, a home theater is proposed to provide a different ambience space to provide visual and audio comfort for the user. A new home garden provided shade from balcony to beautify the façade. In addition to that, three spaces is designed at the first floor. A studying area is extended and a private lounge that consists of a living area and gymnasium facility next to the master’s bedroom is gained to provide activities area for first floor. A new balcony connects the user to the nature outside as well as serves as a new relaxing area.

The following beam sizes are the commonly used beam sizes for a 2 storey residential unit. If in case the bending moment exceeds 540kNm, just adopt the beam size of 250x750. * In residential unit, the loading is usually not high compared to commercial. So, in the case where you exceed the following bending moment, you might need to recheck your calculation or your framing. It could possibly due to inappropriate framing, i.e. the beam is too long or etc…
