“CALL FOR TRAINING PARTNERS” for GRI Certified Training Program – Japan It has never been so critical for society to learn and discuss economic, social and environmental impacts of organizations as it is now. To support this, GRI created the “GRI Certified Training Program”. GRI has the following aims with this program:    

Bring the GRI Reporting Framework closer to sustainability report makers and users Increase the number of sustainability reports Enhance the quality and usage of the reports Build a consistent and standardized level of knowledge worldwide

Working through regional partners, GRI aims to build local training capacity in Japan. The GRI Certified Training Partners in cooperation with GRI create and implement the GRI Certified Training Program based on the GRI Framework and relevant publications. GRI is looking to expand the Training Partner network in Japan and is therefore looking for additional GRI Training Partners in Japan. GRI encourages organizations that meet the criteria, to apply. GRI will then set agreements with those selected to participate in the GRI training certification process and to develop certifiable training material together with GRI. The training material includes local cases and examples of reporting and sustainability issues. The training program is targeted to consultants, business managers, SMEs managers, NGO managers and other professionals, as well as report readers, such as advocacy NGOs, financial analysts, government officials and media. The program offers participants practical guidance to initiate or improve the sustainability reporting process within organizations. The role of GRI Training Partners will be to:      

Collect and introduce regional case studies in the program Submit the training plan for GRI’s approval Define the team of trainers to implement the training for two years Disseminate the program in the country Implement training activities Participate in GRI quality control activities

Partner organization should have: Training Partners should be organizations with ethical reputation and reporting practice. They should also have one or more of the following attributes: 

Track record in delivering high quality training programs in the field of sustainability reporting, CSR, accountability, transparency, ethics or related subjects

Educational expertise in the field of sustainability reporting, CSR, accountability, transparency, ethics or related subjects  Established market with target participants and knowledge of regional CSR context Candidates can present their proposal as a group of organizations. The final form of the association in the region may contain several organizations. Licensing Fee: Training Partners will be charged a fixed annual training license fee depending on the region where they are certified for. For Japan this will range between 4.000 euro and 6.000 euro. The fee will be confirmed at the time of the final decision of pre-selection of the interested organizations. GRI selection process will have the following steps:     

Pre-selection, considering concrete and potential partner’s practices on the topics listed above, through a selection committee coordinated by the GRI Training and Coaching area, composed of GRI internal and external advisors Communication from GRI to the organization(s) about the result of pre-selection Definition of terms of implementation of local association, including agreements on license to use GRI copyrighted materials Pre-selected organizations will receive instructions about the GRI training certification process (which takes a few months) Public announcement of GRI Certified Training Partners by GRI

GRI invites, organizations interested in the dissemination of GRI sustainability reporting practices and willing to become a part of the GRI Training Partner network in Japan, to send an application to GRI containing: 1. Summary with background information about: a. the history of the organization b. its mission c. its values d. its main goals for the next period 2. Description of its training and/or educational activities and indicators on quality of them. Include here a table of the trainings your organization has run in the last two years, including information on topics covered, audience, number of participants and duration of the training. 3. Audiences the organization would target and the reasons for this choice. 4. Projection on size of the market (and clients to be subsidized, if it is the case). 5. Summary of its own performance reporting practices and plans on reporting. Include here to what extent your organization is currently doing its own sustainability reports and specifically if it follows GRI Framework. If currently, your organization is not doing such reports, please outline your plans to do so. The applications should be no longer than 30 pages in a Word document.
