At the end of a long service life, we will take back your Canter for environmentally-friendly disposal in accordance with the EU's directive for End-of-life Vehicles and any applicable national statutory provisions. But, of course, that's a long time off! In accordance with national legislation, scrapped vehicles with a permissible maximum weight of up to 3.5 tons must be taken back. The Canter has been manufactured in accordance with legal requirements for component recycling and re-use for a number of years. A network of take-back centres and disassembly workshops will ensure that your vehicle is recycled in an environmentally-friendly way. Methods for re-using vehicles and vehicle components are developing and improving all the time, so much so that the Canter is on schedule to meet the increased recycling quotas required by law in the future. With no wheel arches protruding into the cab. With easy through-cab access and lots of space for up to 3 people. First came the idea. Can the safety of a cab-over-engine design be significantly improved? As part of our extensive crash research programme the vehicle was investigated in detail in the required crash tests. The findings thus obtained were supplemented by comprehensive computer simulations and practical trials and turned into measures which were then implemented on the product. The results are impressive:

Mitsubishi Fuso Realized Impact Safety Evolution (RISE). A reinforced chassis frame and closed cross-sections in the frame carrier are combined with parallel crossed door frame structures and an energy-absorbing instrument carrier. These passive safety systems leave considerably more room for the occupants in the event of a crash. Additional protection is provided by optional airbags for driver and passenger and belt tensioners on the threepoint seatbelts.

Active safety with ABS. So that it doesn’t even come to that, the Canter is fitted with ABS (optional on 3.5t model) and disc brakes all round. This shortens stopping distances considerably, even with a full load. It is assisted in its work by the hydraulic brake with shortened pedal travel and the exhaust brake, which is standard on all Canter models. The Canter’s improved wheel location, the twin tyres and the new suspension system with revised leaf springs all add up to stable, safe

handling, enabling your business to stay on the road and out of trouble. Powerful defog and defroster nozzles. Four economical engines, for example, which are high in power but low in fuel consumption. Optimally tuned and efficient gearboxes with a variety of axle ratios. So you can carry loads even under the most extreme of conditions, yet your operating and maintenance costs remain low. Another advantage for your business: All relevant maintenance points are easily accessible in the cab.

The Canter – your economical choice of transport. According to how much power you require, the 3.5 t Canter offers models with the new Mitsubishi Fuso Euro 4 engine technology at 110 hp (81 kW), 125 hp (92 kW) or 145 hp (107 kW). The turbo diesel direct injection systems with common rail technology, and variable turbo geometry with particle filters, develop their power cleanly and evenly, and achieve a maximum torque of 255, 294 or 362 Nm respectively at just 1,700 rpm. This makes it ideal for stress-free driving in town, giving you the power you need, without having to change gear a lot. Even if you are tempted to do so by the precise gearbox and dash-mounted gearshift.

The Canter – the powerful economic force. The 6.0 to 7.5 t Canter models are served by the 145 hp (107 kW) or 180 hp (132 kW) direct injection turbodiesel engines with common rail technology and a variable geometry turbocharger. With an engine displacement of three or five litres, the variable geometry turbocharger provides you with a torque of 362 Nm or 530 Nm respectively at speeds just above idle. Power that sets virtually no bounds to your drive. For more efficient use of resources. The new common rail direct injection system works at high pressure to provide you with reduced fuel consumption. The exhaust gas purifica-

tion system with particle filters requires no maintenance and ensures a clean performance. All the Canter’s main maintenance points can be found in the cab, where they cannot get dirty. The fluid levels can be read off directly, whilst engine oil level can be called up at the press of a button. So less time is spent on maintenance and costs are kept low. And should a service part have to be replaced, this can be done quickly and cost-effectively thanks to the tilting cab which gives easy access to assemblies and components.

For narrow, difficult to see places, for example, you need the right size tool. Thanks to the Canter’s compact external dimensions you will be able to manoeuvre easily and load and unload – even in the narrowest of lanes. Thanks to the excellent turning circle, you’ll be able to keep moving – even if things do get a bit tight.

The Canter – built for over 25 years in Europe – is continuing a successful story, which began way back in 1963. More than 3.2 million have been built, many of which are still in use today; and each year, a further 120,000 vehicles are added.

Sales and service centres

1. The first generation Canter was introduced to the small truck market in March of 1963, in the form of the T720 cab-over truck with a 2 ton cargo capacity. It was named “Canter” because of its hardy performance and the exhilarating way it moved like a swift horse.

2. In July 1968, 5 years after its birth, Canter was fully remodeled and became the T90 series – Canter's second generation. Each truck was equipped with a dynamic and powerful highperformance engine – namely a 75 hp diesel, a 90 hp gasoline, or a 95 hp gasoline model, making the Canter top of its class in acceleration and maximum speed.

3. In 1973, the T200 Series was completed, becoming Canter's third generation with substantial changes made to each component, including the cab's front panel. The conventional gasoline engines were both upgraded by 5 hp to 100 hp and 95 hp, while at the same time, an MCA system was included to address exhaust emission issues. An additional 3 ton diesel truck joined the Canter, which already had a reputation for offering a wide variety of models. Furthermore, the new Canter gained much attention for its flexibility in custom-design, allowing it to suit the needs of different cargo loads and usage conditions through low bed, high bed, standard, and long body options.

4. In the late 1970’s, Canter’s market share grew by over 20%. The truck that encouraged this rising tide was the 4th generation Canter, the FE 1 and 2 series, launched in October 1978.

5. The FE 3 and 4 series, members of Canter's 5th generation, were born in October 1985. With the tag line “Today's new Canter, loaded for the future”, these Canters were fully remodeled for the first time in 7 years and designed to offer a tender feel hidden in a masculine exterior on city roads.

6. In November 1993 during Canter's 30th anniversary year, the 6th generation Canter was introduced. With the tag line “GOOD TRUCK”, these Canters featured a round-cubic cab with top-class aerodynamic characteristics, and were equipped with high-performance engines, such as the newly developed, 140 hp naturally-aspirated direct injection engine, the largest capacity engine in its class. These Canters were also the first in their class to be equipped with safety features such as projector head lamps.

7. 2001 Canter (TB) facelift with design modifications including front grill and head lamps. Due to European regulation changes, new Euro 3 engines were introduced for Canter. The Canter models 544, 649 and 659 were offered with ABS as a standard feature.

8. In 2005 the Canter TD, a completely reengineered new model, is launched in the European market. The TD offers strong improvements in reliability, functionality, efficiency, flexibility and additionally in safety andcomfort. In other words: All your business needs! In 2006 the product range is widened with four high torque, economical engines conforming to the Euro 4 standard with 110, 125, 145, and 180 hp.
