Justification: Canthon indigaceus has been assessed as Least Concern. This species has a wide distribution across Central America, from Arizona, USA, and Mexico to Costa Rica; it is considered abundant and is mostly found in pastureland, so that it is unlikely to be affected by any major threat processes. However, there are some indications that populations have been declining in the Veracruz part of this species' range.
Geographic Range Range Description: This species has a wide distribution: it has been collected in Arizona and Texas, USA, and in the tropical region of Mexico and extending throughout Central America, from Mexico to Costa Rica. It is a species that inhabits predominantly pastures and open areas. It is one of the most common roller species in Mexico and Central America. It has been recorded in Costa Rica (Guanacaste), Mexico (Guerrero: Acapulco, Atoyac de Alvarez, Pilcaya, Taxco de Alarcon; Hidalgo: Molango de Escamilla, San Felipe Orizatlan, Tepehuacan de Guerero; Jalisco: La Huerta; Morelos: Cuernavaca, Jojutla, Jonacatepec, Xochitepec, Yecapixtla; Quintana Roo: Othon P Blanco; San Luis Potosi: San Luis Potosi; Veracruz: Actopan, Apazapan, Carrillo Puerto, Catemaco, Coatepec, Cotaxtla, Emiliano Zapata, Jalcomulco, Papantla, Puente Nacional; Yucatan: Tizimin) and Nicaragua (Chinandenga, Leon, Managua, Masaya, Rio San Juan, Rivas), with additional localities in Honduras and Guatemala.

Population There are no population data available for this species. However, the species is considered abundant, although in some parts of Veracruz, populations seem to be decreasing (M. Favila, F. Escobar, G. Halffter and F. Escobar pers. comm. 2014). Current Population Trend: Unknown
Habitat and Ecology (see Appendix for additional information) This species has a very large distribution on both coasts of Mexico and South Mexico, and Central America, all in open areas and clear-cuts, at altitudes ranging from 0-1,800 m.

Use and Trade This species is unlikely to be utilised.
Threats This species is unlikely to be affected by any major threats, as it is abundant in pastureland. However, there are indications that populations are declining in parts of this species' range in Veracruz, Mexico.
Conservation Actions There are no conservation measures in place for this species and none are currently needed.
