[email protected] For Immediate Release Don your favorite chapeau and come to the show as the Bay Area Children’s Theatre (BACT) launches its 10th Anniversary Season with an exuberant new stage version of Dr. Seuss’s brilliant classic, The Cat in the Hat, opening Saturday, June 29, at Children’s Fairyland, 699 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland. “We are delighted to kick off our 10thAnniversary season with a production that introduces preschoolers to live theatre by echoing the style and spirit of a book they know and love,” said BACT Executive Director Nina Meehan. Children of ages 2 – 6 (and their parents) will love the rhyme and have a great time as the versatile BACT cast uses live sound and bold movement to tell the tale of a brother, a sister, and their unexpected visitor. THE CAT IN THE HAT plays at Aesop’s Theatre in Children’s Fairyland June 29 – August 4, on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The show then moves to the Marin Theatre Company, 397 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley, where it will play August 10 - August 18, Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. This is the second show BACT has brought to the children of Marin County. It follows upon last season’s successful tour of Ivy and Bean, the Musical, and is one of several shows that will travel to Marin this season to reach young audiences and their families. Originally produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain and adapted and originally directed by Katie Mitchell, THE CAT IN THE HAT features Doyle Ott as everybody’s favorite juggling feline. When not inviting Thing 1 and Thing 2 into unsuspecting houses, Ott directs the Children’s Theatre Program at Children’s Fairyland and lectures in theatre at Sonoma State University. He has a PhD in Theatre for Youth from Arizona State University, an MA in Arts Education from San Francisco State University, and a BA from UC, Irvine. He is a graduate of San Francisco's Clown Conservatory and an authorized Feldenkrais instructor.
