NEWS The Charity Defense Council Hires Its First Two Full-Time Staff. How Awesome is That?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Charity Defense Council has officially hired its first two full-time staff. They are, Susan Beckmann, who will serve as Executive Director in the area of investment - charged with seriously scaling contributions to our efforts, with a specific focus on galvanizing institutional funders, and, Jason Lynch who will serve as Director of Mobilization, responsible for building high-energy grassroots inspiration, participation and membership. Both come with truly great track records in launching new initiatives in the humanitarian sector. “I can’t tell you how pumped the Board, Advisory Board and I are for the Charity Defense Council to begin its first professional chapter,” said Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dan Pallotta. “What we’ve been able to accomplish just with volunteer leadership has been great, but with fulltime, pro help we’ll really be able to capitalize on our full potential for creating a new world for all those that work in this sector, and all those they work to serve. I also want to thank all of the awesome candidates that applied. It was an incredible field.” Susan Beckmann has an impressive track record in the private, public and non-profit sectors. She’s an accomplished strategist and teamoriented leader who builds strategy, cultivates long-lasting relationships, grows revenue and guides leadership teams. Susan has held elected office in local government for over ten years and is on the Board of The Women’s Fund of Essex County. She co-founded and became Chairman of the North Shore Coalition for School Funding. She enrolled twenty-five Massachusetts North Shore communities to work together with state legislators, the Department of Education and the Governor’s Office for serious educational reform and to find solutions for educational funding shortfalls. In 2009 she completed her leadership of an initiative that built a new $49 million high school in Manchester-Essex, Massachusetts. That’s right - a whole new high school. Susan also has more than twenty-five years of business experience in positions with MCI Telecommunications, Broadwing Communications, One Communications, The Forum Corporation, and Akamai Technologies. She has consulted in sales, business operations, executive coaching, instructional design/delivery, and organizational assessment with clients including Tufts University, Infinity

Pharmaceuticals, John Hancock, and Harvard Business Publishing. “I have had a dream to be part of something that can truly change the world we live in and this is the place to do it.” Susan said. “It is time for us all to live our dreams, to go beyond what we thought we could ever do and really make a difference. I am thrilled to be part of this team and this great cause. We will make history together!”
Jason Lynch served a one-year AmeriCorps VISTA term in Brockton, MA after graduating from Stonehill College and received the Samuel Huntington Public Service Award. Prior winners include a MacArthur Genius Award winner and the current United States Surgeon General. Jason used the platform the Award made possible to launch his own boxing/tutoring program for youth in the community. We think that’s totally inspiring.

Jason comes to us now from the Alzheimer’s Association, where he spear-headed a new fundraising initiative called The Longest Day. He led his chapter to the highest revenue and participation for the event across the Association’s entire 81-chapter network. While launching The Longest Day, Jason studied full-time and earned his MBA in Social Entrepreneurship at the Heller School at Brandeis University, where he was a standout social entrepreneur and received a full merit scholarship and won the Heller Startup Challenge. “There’s probably not a cause that isn’t shackled by our culture’s small thinking and unrealistic expectations about what it actually takes to solve big problems, “ Jason says. “The Charity Defense Council is our opportunity to reverse that thinking. Imagine if we drove a lot more of the world’s best talent to the charity sector. Imagine if we removed all the constraints that limit charities. Can you imagine all the good we’d see in a world like that? I’m humbled to be driving this movement and proud of what we’re about to accomplish.” Contact About the Charity Defense Council The Charity Defense Council is a brave new national leadership organization for the humanitarian sector. Our purpose is to create the conditions under which charities can realize their full potential, and to remove the conditions that prevent them from doing so. Our goal is singular and bold: to change the way the donating public thinks about changing the world. Check us out at charitydefensecouncil.org.
