St Andrew’s Refugee Services Vacancy: Children’s Education Program (CEP) Coordinator Founded in 1979, St Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) is a refugee service provider in central Cairo that works to enhance the quality of life for refugees and vulnerable migrants through education, legal aid, psychosocial services, and community outreach. We provide high-quality services meeting the unaddressed needs of refugees, and we provide a safe and inclusive space for displaced people to come together as a community. We work for refugees, with refugees, to make rights recognition a reality. StARS’ Mission is to enhance the quality of life of refugees in Egypt and make their rights a reality through client-centered programs. We serve people from many places, including Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Yemen, and Syria. To learn more please visit www.stars-egypt.org Program Description: Education StARS’ Education program provides comprehensive educational services to refugees and other vulnerable migrants within Cairo. The program consists of four components: 1. The Montessori Early Childhood Development Project, a pre-school for 30 infants aged three to six years old, and a second pre-school in Maadi for 12 infants; 2. The Children’s Education Program, a full school of 300 students teaching the Sudanese curriculum in English; 3. The Adult Education Program offering a range of language and skills-based classes delivered at StARS locations and in refugee communities; and 4. Education Access and Capacity Building training teachers in refugee schools across Cairo and linking refugees to education and vocational opportunities. Role Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the Children’s Education Program (CEP) Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating all the tasks related to the Children’s Education Program and for ensuring refugee access to quality, student-centered education. In coordination with the Director of Education, the CEP coordinator is responsible for managing curriculum and instruction and creating an academically focused climate in the school. Responsibilities Programmatic  To provide full administration support for the school  To provide teacher training in different school curricula  To maintain attendance records  To administer procedures relating to students transferring or leaving the school  To keep records and reasons of students exclusions  To liaise with parents about return of students from exclusions  To assist parents, careers, and other stakeholders with general enquiries 1

To maintain records for all school staff To hold regular CEP staff meetings to address any issues arising To update CEP staff with any organizational decision related to StARS To maintain student data To refer cases to StARS’ different programs when necessary To supervise the feeding program and the cleaning of the yard and classrooms To interview and select new teachers To assist in working with individual staff needs To provide administrative support for examinations To coordinate with the Sudanese examination officer to follow up with the Sudanese embassy To order supplies, equipment, and classroom resources To inform and arrange with the Operations Director for maintaining / repairing any of the school properties when necessary To liaise with partners in extracurricular activities To create student evaluation surveys and analyze data for reports To organize special events such as closing ceremonies, sports day, and graduation events To confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning problems To maintain discipline To register new students and organize placement tests To provide data for the M&E Officer when needed To attend StARS’ training sessions and organizational meetings when requested To keep the Director of Education fully updated and informed regarding all matters relating to CEP

Finance  To collect school fees and appropriately reconcile all monies with accounts  To prepare the monthly payroll sheet  To manage the school finance and expenses  To send all monthly financial records to the Operations Director  To handle daily accounts and keep invoices of school purchasing General  To be aware of and comply with StARS’ Staff Handbook, Code of Conduct, Complaints and Response Mechanism, and other policies and to ensure all CEP staff are also in compliance  To undertake training and professional development as appropriate Education Department  To endeavor to fulfill the vision of the Education Department  To facilitate open communication and coordination with other programs in StARS  To engage in the collegial atmosphere of the Education Program  To further the development of the Education Program and StARS by feeding new ideas and innovation to senior staff  To perform additional duties in order to support and advance StARS and the Education Program  Other duties as assigned

Requirements  English being the official language of UNHCR as well as StARS and its school, the CEP Coordinator must be fluent in both oral and written English. Arabic or a refugee language is an advantage  University degree in education or related field  Three years of experience working within the field of refugee education  A commitment to and experience of working with forcibly displaced communities  An ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment Hours: 40 hour work week (Sunday – Thursday), and other hours as required Supervised by: Director of Education Salary: EGP8900 per month after completion of a five month probation period (initially 8400 EGP) (plus EGP175 monthly medical allowance and EGP50 monthly pension contribution).
