Children’s Hospital School Weekly Term 3, Week 7
In conjunction with Book Week at the Hospital School and Get Reading! 2012, we have decided to celebrate our High School students’ interests in literature and reading with the following student book blurbs. Get Reading! is an Australian Government initiative developed through the Australia Council for the Arts.
Sink the Gizmo, by Paul Jennings
This story is about two boys that skip school to go fishing. They steal a boat and start to paddle out to sea. They catch a lot of flat fish, and then they find a Gizmo. Suddenly things take a turn for the worst. Random things start turning into water. The gizmo is a strange machine that turns things into water. I like this book because the Gizmo is a like a machine from another world. It can do different things at different times. – Troy, Year 9

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about a young boy who lives with his parents and four grandparents. Charlie and his family are quite poor so Charlie only gets one piece of chocolate for his birthday. When he finds out that Mr. Wonka put golden tickets in them, he got really excited even though he didn’t have one. One day, when he was walking home, he found some money floating around. He went and bought a chocolate bar and it had a golden ticket in it. I like this book because Charlie doesn’t get everything he wants and it is a good story to read. – Shae, Year 7
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, by J.K. Rowling
So far, the story has introduced the Prime Minister who has been relayed very bad news by Cornelius Fudge; the now resigned minister of magic. Trouble has stirred up yet again, and Voldemort is back. Bellatrix and Draco’s mother Narcissa, have made a blood pact with Severus Snape for protection of her son. With this, Bellatrix is highly jealous and harbours suspicions about Snape’s real motives and whom his allegiance lies with. – Jadzia, Year 7 2
