Cisco Data Protection with Commvault Software Cisco and Commvault offer a data management solution that supports all your Cisco® and third-party infrastructure with ease. It includes: • Application-aware data protection (backup and recovery) • Virtual machine and cloud data management (backup, recovery, data tiering, virtual machine archiving, cross-hypervisor operations, selfservice capabilities, and deduplication of local and cloud storage) • Disaster recovery • Data-retention management
Benefits • Faster time to value • Reduced risk with a proven and validated solution • Simplicity with a single data management solution that covers your entire data center • Better economics with a joint solution that offers total cost of ownership (TCO) that is less than US$1000 per terabyte (TB) • Simplified cloud adoption • Management and protection of all of your infrastructure, including hyperconverged and third-party servers and storage • Increased scalability and flexibility
• Compliance enforcement • Search capabilities
You Need Contextual, Policy-Based Data Protection Your volume of data is growing rapidly. It’s difficult to manage that growth and protect your data in a way that’s appropriate for each application. And the challenges don’t stop there. Other infrastructure components—database management systems, email and file servers, and virtual machines—also need to be protected. Without the right backup strategies in place, you can’t easily support recovery of individual database tables, single-message or mailbox restore capabilities, and hypervisor-independent or cross-hypervisor recovery strategies to get systems back online and support your business. Other factors contribute to your backup approach. Some data sets are more important than others. You may want to use the same backup and management approach for cloud and local data. Meeting recovery-time objectives (RTOs) and recovery-point objectives (RPOs) may involve moving data across long distances and taking frequent snapshots. Cisco and Commvault offer a flexible and scalable solution that enables you to easily tailor the way that you protect and manage your data based on your unique needs using a single policy-based, automated platform. Cisco and Commvault Solution Our solution uses Commvault software running on flexible Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) servers to give you low total cost of ownership (TCO) for massive amounts of local disk storage with horizontal scaling as your storage needs grow. The solution works with Cisco UCS C240 and C3260 Rack Servers to manage and protect your data residing on Cisco UCS and Cisco HyperFlex™ Systems as well as on third-party servers and storage resources—all without creating data management silos (Figure 1).

Figure 1 Our Solution Protects Cisco HyperFlex Systems, Cisco UCS Servers, and Third-Party Servers and Storage. Ours is a policy-based solution in which you can establish your own best practices and the Commvault software will automatically implements them, helping ensure compliance with your strategies and regulations. Automatically assigned default backup policies help ensure that no virtual machine is left without backups. Now you can manage backup policies by creating exceptions rather than worrying about whether you have remembered to include all servers and virtual machines in the backup process.
Why Cisco and Commvault? • No more backup silos: Our solution breaks down silos by providing a single backup solution for all your infrastructure, including the Cisco UCS and Cisco HyperFlex Systems and third-party servers and storage resources. • Better economics: We worked with Commvault to create Cisco Validated Designs to offer tested and proven reference architectures for Commvault running on Cisco UCS. These designs accelerate deployment and mitigate implementation and deployment risks. The result: lower TCO and faster time to value.

You can safely replace aging backup appliances that create data silos that don’t scale and have outlived their usefulness. • Accelerate your journey to the cloud—and more: Our powerful capabilities, including built-in connectors to the services of more than 25 cloud providers, can help you accelerate your journey to the cloud. We also offer additional solutions with robust features, including e-discovery and compliance with self-service access to information. And because the Cisco and Commvault offering is a single solution with a single index, you can manage all your data identically, whether it’s located in your local data center or in the cloud.
