The target audience is grades 3-5. The students will develop and practice the skills being covered through DVD presentation and teacher feedback.

Institute for Excellence in Writing: Continuation (B) – Amy Boyer Scheduling Info/Prerequisite: 3 trimesters Intended Curriculum: Institute for Excellence in Writing Outside Work: Moderate Supply/Book Fee: Notebook, $18; E-book, $10 This is not a continuation of the (A) program, but rather a continuation of the same learning skills. The class can be taken as a follow-up to Program (A) or as a standalone program for students without any previous writing experience. The target audience is grades 6-8. Due to the controversial nature of science, Veritas Christian Home School Group has decided to choose a curriculum that embraces the literal 6 day view of creation. Our teachers will instruct the class from this perspective while at the same time encouraging open discussion.

1 or 2 Trimester Classes: Science of Language: Basic Winston Grammar – Paid: Tina Hull Scheduling Info/Prerequisite: 2 trimester Intended curriculum: Basic Winston Grammar Outside Work: Moderate Supply/Book Fee: Approx. $12 for work book and $40 for the teacher fee The purpose of the grammatical portion of this class is to help students understand the structure of language and comprehend the principles of traditional grammar. Winston Grammar Basic curriculum uses an innovative means to achieve conventional ends. It does away with the traditional grammar textbook, lecture approach, and heavy emphasis on memorization. The Program covers the following concepts: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, coordinating conjunctions, interjections, nouns of direct address, subjects, direct and indirect objects, and appositives. In addition, this course will include vocabulary and spelling from Classical Roots, which is a thematically organized vocabulary program based on Greek and Latin roots. Words are presented with dictionary-style definitions, and all words are used in example sentences. Lists of familiar words and challenge words are provided for each root to help all student activate prior knowledge. Exercises include synonym/antonym, fillin-the-blank, identification of incorrect usage, and analogies. This yearlong class is sure to be exciting, interesting and far from another boring language arts class!

Babysitting – Kelley McGill Scheduling Info/Prerequisite: 1 trimester Intended curriculum: Mixture of babysitting books, 4H Child Development, and others Outside Work: Minimal Supply/Book Fee: BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training, second edition—approximately $6.00 In this class we will discuss babysitting as a business – how to advertise, questions to ask potential clients, and discussing babysitting ethics (such as when it's OK to cancel or refuse a babysitting job). For younger students or those without babysitting experience, we will discuss the option of becoming a mother’s helper to gain experience for your resume. We will also cover how to care for a choking infant or child, personal safety, how to care for children of varying ages (diapering, holding an infant, preparing snacks and feeding, entertaining, etc.), injury prevention, basic first aid, preventing problem behavior, and behavior management. The BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training), Second Edition program is exciting and interactive, providing extensive training in pediatric first aid, household safety, and the fundamentals of childcare. Features of the Second Edition include: Most current practices for safety and injury prevention while babysitting First Aid basics for emergency response Quick references tools for babysitters Fun, easy to follow booklet. (This is purse size so that it can be put in your first aid kit or go with you on babysitting jobs to use as a reference). During class we will put together a basic first aid kit that can also be taken along with you to babysitting jobs. The special project for the trimester will have students put to use what has been learned throughout the class about age appropriate snacks, games and activities. Students will work to plan age appropriate activities and then go into the Veritas nursery or preschool to interact in an adult supervised setting to lead the children in those activities and get hands on experience working with younger children.

Engineering Basics with Lego Technic – Kym Car st
