Songs of the month: The wheels on the bus, Sleeping bunnies and ABC’s – Attached will be the words to the songs

Week # 1 September 6th – 10th Theme: New Friends, New Toys This week will be a big week for your little one. For some this may be their first time away from mommy or daddy. We will explore our room and all the new toys. We are going to meet our new classmates this week. We are going to make a picture frame using the picture that your child brought in to class. We are going to have our first circle time together where we will read a short story and learn our new songs. We are going to enjoy a snack together.

Week # 2 September 13th – 17th Theme: The color yellow This week is all about the color yellow. We are going to introduce yellow finger paint. We are going to learn the words: paint and slimy. We are going to have yummy yellow bananas for snack today. We will have yellow circles hidden all around the room for us to find with our friends. Together we are going to put together a floor size puzzle in the shape of a bus. We will continue learning our new songs and the actions that go along with them. Show your child something yellow at home as well.

Week # 3 September 20th – 24th Theme: The color Red As we eat our bright red apples and fresh red strawberries we are going to talk about the color red. We are going to make apple prints by taking a sliced apple and dipping it in paint and putting it on our paper. We are going to practice using a glue stick this week as well as we will glue red apples on our apple tree print out. We are going to play hide-n-seek with our red foam apples. This is great for hand eye coordination.

Week # 4 September 27th – Oct 1 Theme: Leaves are all around us Last week we had fun with apples on trees, this week we are going to talk about the leaves on the trees. We are going to go outside and collect red and yellow and brown leaves that have fallen on the ground. We will then glue them onto our paper for a collage. After all the glue has dried, we will look at all the different shapes, sizes and colors of the leaves that our friends collected.

Family Ideas to Encourage Toddler Speech Development by Irene Helen Zundel: Topics: Family Activities, Growth and Development

Talk a lot to your child. For children to learn a language, they must hear it spoken often. To get a child to talk, you have to talk. During the day, comment on things going on in your child’s environment. Describe the colors and shapes of things, objects around them and tasks you are doing. Point out people in the neighborhood like the postal carrier or bank clerk. Talk as long as your child shows interest. If he turns away or appears inattentive, stop. Don’t give your toddler a case of auditory overload! Read plenty of books for toddlers. For toddlers, select picture and pop-up books. Take time to point out objects in the pictures and give simple commentary and explanations on what your child is seeing. Also get books with simple-to-follow stories and ear-catching rhymes. Re-read the books often. Repetition is a key to learning. Label things. Putting labels on commonly seen and used objects helps a child recognize written language and make associations between words and things. Put labels on toys, clothes, furniture, eating utensils, your mailbox, etc. Reinforce the words by repeating them and then asking your toddler to say them, too. ("This is your cup. Can you say cup?")
