Challenges/Lessons Learned • Not all students have high internet speed access – Provide demo sessions to online students before they sign up for online courses and check their technology capabilities/ resources.
• Back up audio/video devices for “One Shot” capture events (Murphy’s Law applies) • Training of instructors on distance presentation methods and course design is critical for success. • Record only what makes sense to audience • Quality Audio Matters. (Revo Labs XTAG USB MIC)

(8.6 vs. 5 lessons out of 15 total) • Non-Native English speakers were the outliers, routinely watching three times as many minutes, twice as many chapters.

Lessons Learned • The longer the lecture, the less likely your average student will watch it. • Videos that illustrate problems/solutions (by hand or using software) are watched more frequently than traditional lecture with slides. • Record class session that includes the syllabus review (first day of class). Especially important for online only courses. • Use additional videos (made outside of class) to review subject matter that creates confusion for a significant minority of students. • Videos add flexibility for faculty member and student.
