Cloud Offerings Explained Cloud computing enables many advantages for increasingly dynamic business IT environments. While every cloud computing deployment is unique, understanding typical cloud configurations and services provides a sound basis for identifying the right approach for your evolving IT infrastructure. Public Cloud
Private Cloud
Infrastructure and services are dynamically provisioned to specific users or the general public on a self-service basis. Unrelated customers or organizations often share services and resources.
A server environment dedicated to a single organization. Managed either by you or a third-party service provider.
Benefits: • Data/application access anytime, anywhere, from any client device
Benefits: • Most secure, given firewall protection from other users and organizations
• Pay-per-use Hardware/Software/Infrastructure
• Maximize use of available resources through dedicated computing platforms
• Reduce internal IT costs/asset depreciation
• Easier compliance with data storage regulations
• New applications or services can be deployed quickly and efficiently
• IT costs billed back to departments based on actual usage vs. allocations

Hybrid Cloud
Single, dedicated organization
A cloud computing environment where some resources are managed in-house or hosted “privately” by a service provider while others are provisioned externally via public cloud. Benefits: • Blends the confidence and security of a dedicated IT infrastructure with the flexibility and scalability of the public cloud. • Enables you to assign the most appropriate cloud type (public vs. private) to specific apps and business processes. • Turnkey, remotely manageable cloud solutions available

Know the Cloud: Services Terminology
Regardless of the particular configuration, typical cloud services can include: PaaS (Platform as a Service)
Enables development of custom applications and migration of legacy applications to cloud environments.
IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
Provision model in which an organization outsources equipment used to support operations—enabling on-demand and highly scalable capacity.
SaaS (Software as a Service)
“On-demand” application delivery model operated by a third-party provider. Can involve an outsourced service provider managing an ISV’s software as a service.
TaaS (Testing as a Service)
Provisioning of services to support application and infrastructure technology testing. Can include virtualized, scalable, on-demand test labs with Web interfaces for self-provisioning and multiplatform environment management.
