COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST Pay Grade: 6 (Non-‐Exempt) Minimum Qualifications: (education, experience, and certifications) • Bachelor’s degree • MLS coursework from an ALA-‐accredited library school Minimum Competencies: (knowledge, skills, and abilities) • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work accurately, independently, and with attention to detail • Knowledge of standard public library collection development philosophy and practice • Skill in using library catalogs and Microsoft Office programs • Broad cultural competency knowledge and skills, and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and community • Demonstrated commitment to the pursuit of equity, diversity, and inclusion • Ability to adjust to change positively Preferred Qualifications: • Coursework in collection development • Experience working in public library or bookstore Preferred Competencies: • Familiarity with current popular fiction authors and nonfiction subjects • Familiarity with the Sierra ILS Essential Functions: • Using ILS and collection analysis lists, evaluates materials for condition and use • Pulls duplicate, worn, and unused copies for withdrawal • Searches for missing and claims returned materials, updating library catalog when necessary • Withdraws materials from the catalog and processes for book sale room or donation • Shelf-‐reads materials • Communicates with Access Services Manager and collection development librarians to ensure work adheres to library’s collection development policy • Assists collection development staff with other duties as assigned • Directs patron questions to appropriate desk staff Physical/Mental Demands and Environmental Conditions: • Reasonable accommodations to these requirements will be made as needed • Ability to perform office-‐related functions including extended concentration on a computer and typing capability
