To receive an International & Global Perspectives Leadership Certificate, you must complete a leadership transcript (located inside this journal) & submit all required documentation by the 5th week of the quarter of your graduation. College Nine International & Global Perspectives

Leadership Journal One of the primary goals of College Nine is to help our students actively engage in the college community and build leadership skills that reflect our theme of international & global perspectives. We encourage you to take on leadership roles at the college and progress through various college programs. To formally recognize your leadership contributions and experiences, the International & Global Perspectives Leadership Certificate is presented upon your graduation. This is a tangible honor that can be highlighted in employment and graduate school applications.

Minimum Expectations & Suggested Progression* 4-YEAR PROGRAM*

All programs/classes as listed in guidelines below are required but can be completed at any time during your undergraduate career. The following sequence of participation is suggested:

FALL:

Part 1 A (usually during first year) Completion of at least one of the following each quarter:

•GLAD: the College Nine Fall Leadership Program •Leadership position or active involvement in another College Nine group continuing for at least 2 qtrs. not otherwise counted (e.g Student Government)

WINTER: •College Nine 85, Global Action, 2-credit class • Intercultural Community Weekend

SPRING: •Engagement in a college-sponsored 2-credit course •Leadership position in a college group (theme-related) •Community Service project participation (i.e PRAXIS, Alternative Spring Break, or comparable self-initiated project) Year-long participation in a Theme Floor, fulfilling all requirements and expectations (e.g.i-Floor, Service Learning Floor) can count as two activities.

Part 1 B (usually second year) Completion of at least one of the following: •Service Learning program for 2 quarters or comparable self-initiated project •Participation in an program with focus on international/global issues (e.g, GIIP/Everett, EAP, other) for at least 2 quarters •Participation in the Practical Activism Planning Group •Leadership position in a college group for 3 quarters (theme-related) •Excellence in a Student Staff Leadership position for 3 quarters

Part 2 (usually during third & fourth years) Completion of at least 2 of the following: •Successful completion of CLNI 191, “Teaching Global Action” •Teach in Service Learning Program •Equivalent engagement in college-sponsored courses & programs focusing on International and global perspectives Any of the following activities not otherwise counted as a part of another requirement of the program: •Student Staff Leadership position for a total of 3 quarters •Leadership position in a college group or community project for 3 qtrs (theme-related).

Junior Transfer Students:

To qualify for this certificate in your 2 years at UCSC, complete either Part 1 A or Part 1B requirements, & only one from Part 2.
