Community Outreach, Volunteer, and Development Manager Position Summary and Scope
Internal/External Posting Full time position
The Community Outreach, Volunteer & Development Manager is responsible for developing a coordinated approach to ROSSS communication, community engagement and outreach, volunteer and fundraising activities. This position builds ROSSS’ profile and builds awareness of ROSSS programs and services amongst clients, community, partners and donors while providing year-round support to the development and implementation of ROSSS’ marketing and fundraising strategies. The Community Outreach, Volunteer & Development Manager leads, coordinates and implements branding, marketing and fundraising activities and develops and/or edits the organization’s communication materials and maintains the corporate websites and social media accounts.
Key Responsibilities Community Outreach
Develops and implements comprehensive and innovative communication, marketing, fundraising and outreach plans to effectively position ROSSS within the community to create awareness, understanding and demand for its programs and services by means of various communications channels and mediums, including media, social media, internet marketing, events, and strategic relations. Identifies opportunities for community engagement, awareness and program promotion; establishes an event plan that includes participants, partners, budget, agenda and scheduled roll-out. Where necessary, identifies vendors/consultants, negotiates service agreements, and ensures services are delivered on-time, on-budget and to expected standards. Researches and develops articles for newsletters, fundraising and advertising campaigns. Manages the corporate website and social media accounts by approving content, evaluating site traffic and web development. Establishes metrics and methodologies for the measurement of outcomes and effectiveness of outreach and communications activities and initiatives Provides back up for program coordinators when out of the office, or during busy periods as identified by the Executive Director/Manager of Programs and Services. Evaluates, manages and reports on relevant statistics on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis

Development and Fundraising
Secures and coordinates sponsorship (in kind and cash). Ensures effective stewardship and recognition of donors, sponsors, and event participants. Actively secures relevant grants for the organization. Develops and monitors a calendar of upcoming fundraising events. Develops new marketing and fundraising opportunities. Identifies and capitalizes on new avenues/forums to establish strategic alliances and new relationships with third party event donors. Works closely with the fundraising committee and provides support and advise on the execution of fundraising events.
Volunteer Coordination
Recruits and screens volunteers for ROSSS in accordance with ROSSS’ policies and needs of the organization Coordinates, delivers and monitors the orientation and training for volunteers to provide service in accordance with ROSSS’ policies Coordinates volunteer rotation, scheduling and ensures that the vacancies are filled as they occur and scheduling concerns are attended to
Communication
Leads the development and integration of communication tools/programs for PR campaigns that align with ROSSS’ vision, mission and value statements. Manages the Corporate website and social media accounts by approving content, evaluating site traffic and web development. Develops a suite of tools, templates and processes to support volunteers, stakeholders and ROSSS staff in promotion, communication, outreach and fundraising activities. Ensures a consistent approach to ROSSS branding and messaging; identifies key messages and develops branding guidelines for volunteers, staff and board members. Manages the publication of all ROSSS print, website and media content; responsible for developing and maintaining content on ROSSS’ website. Coordinates the production of ROSSS’ annual report.

Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Business/Volunteer Management/Community Development /Marketing Five years’ experience at the management level of working in a communications and outreach role at a non-profit organization, preferably one with strong ties to a rural community. Knowledge of and commitment to a community-based model of social work intervention and in particular community programming for the senior population and adults with physical disabilities. Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles. A clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization. Clear knowledge of fiscal management and responsibility, business finance, capital funding, contracts, and partnerships. Sound understanding of risk management. Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills. A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. Strong technical (e.g., word processing) skills with ability to complete layouts of printed materials and managing websites/online content. Ability to travel throughout Ottawa, particularly rural areas, on a daily basis. Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle on a daily basis, up to date insurance. Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
Working Conditions
Spends 50% of time on site. Required to use a computer on a day to day basis. Required to own and drive car to travel.
