China Telecom’s China-Nepal Terrestrial Cable Adds 20G Broadband

In early January, the construction of China Telecom’s China-Nepal terrestrial cable entered the trial run stage after passing cross-boundary system testing with additional 20G bandwidth. This is a major infrastructure accomplishment made under the Belt and Road Initiative. The new capacity marks a major milestone as a low latency network will be available to connect Nepal with Europe and the Americas through China. This will immensely improve the network communications in Nepal and within the region. Launched in 2013, the project has witnessed a series of natural disasters including the 8.1 magnitude earthquake and the massive avalanche in Nepal during construction. This challenging project demonstrates China Telecom’s dedication and determination in building an information-centered high-speed link along the Belt and Road route.

China Telecom Further Enhanced China-Africa Cooperation to Achieve Sustainable Development

Led by the Belt and Road Initiative, representatives from China Telecom’s Africa and Middle East office and Kenya team attended the 2017 China-Africa Industry Capacity Cooperation Expo hosted in Nairobi last December. At the event, China Telecom highlighted its comprehensive network capacity including connectivity resources across the Asia-Africa-Europe region, global telecommunication solutions, IT managed services, satellite solutions as well as its network security expertise. The event presented state-of-the-art technology from China and shared successful cases, in an effort to drive connectivity and sustainable development in Africa. Meetings with over 30 regional partners fostered collaboration potential for the coming year.
