What is the Chinese New Year Celebration? The Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated not only in mainland China but also throughout the world wherever there is a significant population of people of Chinese descent. The date of the event varies from year to year because it is based on a lunar calendar, thus it is often referred to as the Lunar New Year. There are many customs and traditions that have been passed down over thousands of years but one of the most important is this special celebration event.
