What do I need to start the course? Skills & Experience Ability to use appropriate tools Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Contribute to discussions on a range of topics Be able to recognise the letters of the English Alphabet No previous experience of Calligraphy is required Brief description and topics covered: A practical study of Foundational Hand comprising of: Miniscule (small letters) Capitals First stage will be to produce letters with Double Pencils Pens At the
end of the course you will have developed skills in: How to recognise Historic scripts through the ages Producing full alphabets of small and capital letters to the correct size, in pen Measurement and shapes of letters; e.g. circle, oval, rectangle, triangle Angles and ratios of pen nibs to letter height Pen direction and speed of writing Ordering and numbering of pen strokes Creating a finished piece of work ready for framing Completing a portfolio of work
