Students will be able to write a research paper with proper MLA format including a works cited page, outline, note cards, and final typed paper. Students will present their paper to the class. Literature/Writing Students will be able to read, comprehend, and respond to drama. Students will critique drama.

Activity Read “The Cask of Amontillado” page 4, “The Most Dangerous Game” page 16, “The Interlopers” page 304, “The Scarlet Ibis” page 554, “The Necklace” page 608, “The Birds” page 50, and “The Invalid’s Story” page 596. Students will take the diagnostic tests on page 341, 361, 379, and 401 to check for understanding. I will assign assignments from the book and outside sources based on their knowledge. Students will write to practice prompts. Prompts will be given weekly with final copies due on Friday. Students will pay particular attention to word choice, transitions, and thesis statements. Students will read and respond to the epic poem The Odyssey on page 978. Students will respond to higher-thinking questions and writing by writing a comparison/contrast essay on page 1019 and do a character study on page 1049. Students will research and write on a topic approved of by the teacher. Students will use the library and computer lab extensively. Students will use the Internet source owl@perdue. Students will use various instruction handouts from me.

Students will read and respond to Romeo and Juliet on page 764. Students will learn literary elements including dramatic foil, flat/round characters, soliloquy, aside, monologue, etc. Students will write persuasive letters, editorials, and do more technical writing.
