Grading  Policies     Academic  Integrity:   Academic  integrity  is  the  foundation  for  achievement  in  higher  education.  Each  student  is  encouraged  to   access  the  plagiarism  tutorial  offered  by  the  university  library.  This  tutorial  provides  an  excellent   overview  of  proper  citation  and  quotation  of  the  work  of  others,  as  well  as  examples  of  proper  and   improper  citations  and  quotations,  and  strategies  to  avoid  plagiarism.     Any  instance  of  violating  academic  integrity  (cheating,  plagiarism,  etc.)  will  result  in  an  automatic  grade   of  “0"  for  that  test,  as  the  minimum  penalty  and  will  be  handled  according  to  the  university  policy  on   Academic  Misconduct.  Depending  on  the  seriousness  of  the  violation,  that  process  may  result  in   additional  penalties  such  as  a  failing  grade  for  the  course,  or  even  suspension  or  expulsion  from  the   university.       Students  with  Special  Needs:   Students  with  special  needs  who  require  specific  course-‐related  accommodations  should  contact  the   Student  Disability  Resource  Center  (SDRC),  (850)  474-‐2387.  DSS  will  provide  the  student  with  a  letter  for   the  instructor  that  will  specify  any  recommended  accommodations.     Course  Withdrawal:     The  deadline  for  withdrawing  from  a  course  with  an  automatic  grade  of  "W"  can  be  found  on  the   university  academic  calendar.  Students  should  review  the  university  policy  on  course  withdrawal.   Withdrawal  from  a  course  after  the  posted  deadline  requires  approval  of  the  student’s  academic  advisor,   course  instructor,  department  chairperson,  and  the  Academic  Appeals  committee.  Requests  for  late   withdrawals  may  be  approved  only  under  unusual  circumstances,  which  must  be  documented,  such  as  a   death  in  the  immediate  family,  serious  illness  of  the  student  or  an  immediate  family  member,  call  to   military  service  or  National  Guard  duty.       Grading   Graded  items  and  point/percentage:       Total   Points   Graded  Item   Percentage   Points   Each   Exams  x  3  @  10%  each   Quizzes  x  12   Self-‐Assessments  x  12   LearnSmart    x  12   Activities  x  12   Extra  Credit  Pre-‐test  and  Post-‐test   You  get  15  points  for  completing  the  entire  pre-‐ test  and  earn  1  point  for  each  correct  answer  on   the  post-‐test   Total

You  must  complete  the  Academic  Integrity  test  by  the  deadline,  or  you  will  fail  the  course.

To  compute  your  final  grade,  add  up  all  the  points  earned  and  divide  by  the  points  possible  so  far  in   the  course.    You  can  view  points  earned  by  viewing  your  report  in  Connect.    Remember  the  highest   score  is  used  for  each  assignment,  but  the  average  is  used  for  the  unit  exams.     Grading  Scale:       A   93  or  higher   C+   77-‐79     A-‐   90-‐92   C   73-‐76     B+   87-‐89   C-‐   70-‐72     B   83-‐86   D   60-‐69     B-‐   80-‐82   F   Below  60       Academic  Integrity  Module   You  are  required  to  complete  the  Academic  Integrity  Quiz  before  the  end  of  the  2nd  week  of  the   course.  First  read  the  module  with  information  regarding  academic  integrity  located  on  our  eLearning   site.  This  module  is  a  critical  learning  experience  emphasizing  academic  integrity.  The  evaluation   component  must  be  completed  with  100%  accuracy  in  order  to  receive  credit  for  it.  You  may  attempt   this  module  as  many  times  as  necessary  to  achieve  100%  accuracy.  This  module  must  be  successfully   completed  before  the  end  of  the  2nd  week  of  the  course.  If  the  required  Academic  Integrity  Module  is   not  completed  by  the  deadline,  you  will  be  advised  to  withdraw  from  the  course  or  receive  an   automatic  grade  of  "F"  for  the  course.  There  will  be  no  opportunity  to  complete  this  requirement  after   the  deadline.     Connect  Online  Self-‐Assessments   For  each  module/chapter,  you  will  complete  a  self-‐assessment  quiz  on  the  material.    This  assignment  is   meant  to  allow  you  to  practice  answering  multiple  choice  questions  and  to  self-‐assess  your  learning   before  deciding  to  take  the  quiz.  You  have  3  attempts  to  earn  your  highest  score.  Only  your  highest   score  will  count.  With  each  attempt,  you  may  build  from  previous  attempts  rather  than  starting  all  over.   This  means  you  will  answer  only  those  questions  you  got  incorrect  the  first  time.  There  are  40  questions   total  and  no  time  limit.     Connect  Online  Quizzes   For  each  module/chapter,  you  will  complete  a  20  question  quiz  on  the  chapter.    The  lowest  3  scores  will   be  dropped;  the  reason  for  this  is  to  provide  a  cushion  in  case  of  forgetting  to  take  the  quiz,  technical   failure,  acts  of  God,  or  poor  performance.  You  may  complete  the  quiz  at  any  time  within  that  window,   but  once  you  start  you  will  have  30  minutes  to  complete  it.    Books  and  notes  are  allowed,  but  you  must   be  familiar  with  the  material  to  finish  on  time.    There  will  be  a  mix  of  knowledge-‐based  and  applied   multiple  choice  questions.    You  have  2  attempts  at  the  quiz.    The  attempt  with  the  highest  score  will   count  as  your  grade.    If  you  are  pleased  with  your  first  attempt,  you  do  not  need  to  take  it  again.     Exams   You  will  have  three  unit  exams.  You  will  have  1.5  hours  to  answer  70  questions  to  the  best  of  your   ability.  You  may  start  anytime  within  the  window.  Make  sure  you  have  enough  time  left  in  the  window   to  finish.  You  may  use  books  and  notes,  but  you  will  not  have  time  to  look  up  every  answer.  You  may   take  the  exam  again  if  you  do  not  do  well  the  first  time,  but  you  will  start  fresh  and  your  scores  will  be   averaged.  You  also  may  have  different  questions  pulled  from  the  pool  of  hundreds  of  questions.    The   questions  will  be  a  mixture  of  knowledge  and  applied  multiple  choice  questions  (just  like  the  quizzes).

Connect  Online  LearnSmart    /  Smartbook   This  is  a  flashcard  based  system  that  you  will  complete  for  each  module/chapter.    They  are  set  to  be   completed  in  20-‐40  minutes.    Keep  in  mind,  though,  that  if  you  get  a  question  wrong  it  goes  back  into   the  “stack.”    In  addition,  multiple  mistakes  on  the  same  concept  may  lead  to  several  flashcards  added  to   the  “stack”  in  order  to  help  you  learn  that  area.    You  simply  need  to  keep  working  through  the   flashcards  until  they  are  100%  completed  for  full  credit.    If  you  have  purchased  ConnectPlus,  be  sure  to   click  on  “Smartbook”  to  help  you  read  and  learn  the  material  as  you  complete  the  LearnSmart   assignment.     Connect  Online  Activities   These  are  video  and  animated  activities  that  help  you  learn  main  concepts  in  a  chapter.    Depending  on   the  complexity  of  the  chapter  and  quality  of  activities  available,  the  number  of  activities  range  from  25-‐ 50  questions.  You  will  work  through  each  interactive  activity  and  then  answer  3-‐5  questions  based  on   the  activity.    You  have  3  attempts.    The  highest  scored  attempt  counts  as  your  grade.       Summary  Description  &  Policies  of  Graded  Items     Except  for  LearnSmart  (which  is  open  now  until  the  due  date),  all  assignments  are  available  during  the  one  week   window  indicated  in  the  course  calendar  and  on  the  Connect  website.       Multiple  attempts  are  offered  to  act  as  a  buffer  for  less-‐than-‐satisfactory  previous  attempts,  technical  difficulty,  and   acts  of  God.    There  are  no  attempts  available  beyond  the  ones  offered  even  if  the  problem  was  out  of  your  control.     Technical  difficulty  with  the  Connect  site?   Call  Connect  Help:  800-‐331-‐5094   Sun  6pm  -‐  11pm  CT   Mon  -‐  Thurs  8am  -‐  11pm  CT   Fri  8am  -‐  6pm  CT   Exams     Purpose:  Assessment  of  learning     Connect  Online  Quizzes     Purpose:  Assessment  of  learning   Connect  Online  Self-‐Assessments     Purpose:  Practice  answering  multiple  choice   questions;  self-‐assess    your  learning  prior  to  taking  the   quiz     Connect  Online  Activities     Purpose:  Learning,  building  understanding     Connect  Online  LearnSmart  /  Smartbook   Purpose:  Learning,  knowledge-‐base     Smartbook  is  LearnSmart  with  the  ebook  integrated   into  the  assignment  and  it  available  with  ConnectPlus,   but  not  Connect.
