CUSTOMER PROFILE Cox & Company is known for the quality of its products and services, and the ability to meet and exceed the engineering and product specifications of its customers. When the Plainview, NY-based company was faced with needing to replace its ERP system after its supplier was acquired and support was being discontinued, it sought to find a new solution that offered nothing less in terms of the level of quality and service that Cox provides its own customers.
“Whether doing costing – or any other function in the system, the ease of finding information is one of the great strengths of the software” It enlisted an independent third party to help identify nearly a score of possible solutions; then to narrow the list to a handful that were invited to give day-long demos. After careful assessment against a detailed requirements document, Cox & Company selected the Infor ERP VISUAL suite in late 2000. Synergy Resources, an Infor ERP VISUAL value-added reseller partner, worked collaboratively with the company’s implementation team to complete the conversion and have the system up and running by July 4, 2001. “It was very timely. Synergy Resources provided training, prototype support, data conversion, and did critical customizations for us,” says Deborah Gellen, system implementation manager. “We had a pre-existing labor data collection system in place that we didn’t want to lose our investment in. And they wrote a bridge to bring data from that system over into VISUAL.” Careful cost management in the company’s engineer-toorder design/production operations makes detailed actual costing of customer orders a key feature of the VISUAL implementation. “All costing transactions are tied back to the
original data source,” Gellen says. “You can start with an item in the General Ledger and work back to a labor ticket or purchase order. “Whether doing costing – or any other function in the system, the ease of finding information is one of the great strengths of the software,” she says. “Everything is cross referenced, where if you only know the purchase order number, a vendor, a component within a product, or a piece of an inventory transaction, you can easily trace the links to find what you’re looking for.” Synergy Resources provided hands-on assistance to ensure a smooth transition to the new software. “In an implementation like this, it requires that people let go of some of the old ways of doing things. Synergy Resources’ people were really good at listening to our users, gaining a good feel for what they were used to doing, and then helping us map out new processes under VISUAL,” Gellen says. An added bonus is that Synergy Resources is local, which makes support less costly than that which was provided for the previous package, which required bringing someone in from more remote locations. “They’ve provided us with very high quality, flexible support – and have been willing to do whatever it takes in terms of customization or training to ensure our success,” Gellen states.
