Pedal for Scotland Challenge WMP were chosen to deliver Pedal for Scotland. We needed new routes and a substantially enhanced overall experience to keep riders returning to the event. A major objective was to grow the corporate element of the event.

Solution We designed and delivered 3 challenges to cater for all riders levels, over 3 days:

• Created the Gold Team Challenge that encouraged corporates to get involved in teams

• Classic Challenge: 45 miles, fully closed roads from Glasgow to Edinburgh

• Big Belter: 110 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh

• Wee Jaunts: 3x shorter, family friendly, closed road rides in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Results • 10,000 cyclists took part

• 99% said this was the best version yet

• 46% new to the event

• 22 Corporate teams including RBS, AG Barr & STV

Shine Night Walk Challenge Every year, Cancer Research UK needs a different, more exciting route for its biggest fundraising event of the year, Shine Night Walk, in order to attract existing and new participants.

Solution As CRUK’s event consultants, we are tasked with creating an iconic marathon course through London. This takes in the best of London’s heritage, culture and the ‘Top 10 London Sights’ (according to Time Out) and many more.

On event night, our Event Control Director manages volunteer marshals, stewarding, road closures, H&S, stakeholder consultation, signage and Pit Stops, ensuring Shine runs safely and smoothly.

Results • 16,000 participants safely completed the iconic, yet challenging city course

• Safe management of large numbers of participants - including flow through a finish venue too small to hold all

• £4.6 million for CRUK

• Feedback showed course design best in class

SplashFest Challenge To raise awareness of the RNLI and increase its membership base away from traditional coastal towns. They engaged WMP to design a major mass participation event in the capital aimed at urban families.

Solution We chose Battersea Park, London, to host the inaugural ’Splashfest’ - a water based family challenge day. Part aqua experience, part festival, Splashfest encouraged children and adults to enjoy a range of water challenges, all while promoting the incredible work of the RNLI. We designed the website, registration, onsite activation and created and delivered the entire event.

Results • Over 5,000 participants in first year

• New memberships signed up

• New sign ups to newsletter

• Increased appreciation of RNLI

EMPLOYEE ENGAGMENT

Daiichi Sankyo - Active YOU Challenge As part of Daiichi Sankyo’s internal YOU campaign WMP created a sports initiative to run throughout the year with the aim of encouraging employees to get active, healthy and engaged.

Solution WMP created the “Active YOU - Steps for Change” campaign to run alongside YOU. A collective goal of 10 million steps as an organisation was set. Steps would be recorded at the 4 main touch-points in the year on pedometers handed out to employees.

Not only would this encourage a change in behaviour to become more active but employees and the organisation would also commit to raising a penny for every step recorded for charity.

Results The first Steps for Change event - “The Warm Up” resulted in:

• Surrey - 356,951 steps

• Peaks - 266,399 steps

• 100% of participants enjoyed the challenge and would recommend to other employees

QP - National Sports Day Challenge Qatar Petroleum wanted to create a bespoke event to engage their employees, friends and families on National Sports Day. A PR stunt for the local press was also required.

Solution WMP designed and delivered an event for 7,000 of its staff and their families, at Doha’s Aspire SportsPark including ten different sections - with sporting activities taking into consideration all age ranges and abilities.

To kick off the day in style (and to ensure media-friendly images for the next day’s newspapers), we organised the formation of a human QP logo using 600 staff volunteers which was shot from above in a cherry picker. 

Results • 7,000 happy, active participants

• Despite being first time tries at many of the sports, it was a very safe event

• Well-received, culturally sensitive stage entertainment

• Blanket coverage in multiple national newspapers the following day

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT YBS - Leap the Peaks Challenge The Yorkshire Building Society were looking for a accessible and fun fundraising event as the highlight to their support of End Youth Homelessness.

Solution WMP created a new event concept - ‘Leap The Peaks’ which saw participants walk 9 miles and abseil on the Monsall Trail in the Peak District.

WMP managed all aspects of the event including full logistics, routes, accommodation, food, and participant transport from regional offices across the country.

Results • 350 people took part in the event increased from the initial predicted 200 participants

• Most popular YBS staff engagement event to date

• Exceeded Fundraising targets

Solution A new B2B mass participation cycling event - The Climb dubbed the ‘JP Morgan on Bikes’.

End to End Ultra Challenge A small corporate group from Knight Frank wanted a bespoke challenge that would push them physically and enable them to raise money for Thrivor.

Solution WMP created a new event concept - a Cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End, climbing Britain’s three highest peaks along the way - in just ten days - climbing a total elevation of Mount Everest x 3!

WMP managed all aspects of the event including full logistics / routes / accommodation and food as well as securing commercial partnerships and managing social media for the trip.

Results • A website was also created and managed where participants could link their Just Giving pages.

• Cycle 1,054 miles

• Gain 20,622m riding elevation

• Climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon (3,407m elevation)

• £30,000 raised

Garmin Ride Out Challenge To design and manage a ride for Garmin to showcase the brand and raise money for Action Medical Research.

Solution WMP designed and managed a fully marshalled 50 mile route, through the New Forest offering one of the most scenic cycling experiences in the country - a stunning blend of forest roads, quaint villages, tree-lined bends and far reaching views.

AON Ride Challenge To design and manage a ride for AON engage employees, entertain clients and raise money for Action Medical Research.

Solution WMP designed and managed three different routes to cater for all abilities. Starting in Tunbridge, the rides took cyclists across the Garden of England showcasing come of the very best scenery that Kent has to offer.

Results • 150 riders

• Over £70,000 raised for Action Medical Research

Ride 100 Series Challenge Action Medical Research (AMR) needed specialist support in the pre-planning and onthe-day management and delivery of their Ride 100 events and various corporate partner ides.

Solution Given our cycling experience, WMP were chosen to manage and deliver these events, under the Action brand. From pre-planning, route finding, all on event support and full delivery, we are now firmly established as Action’s cycling event deliver partner.

Results • Seamless transition for Action from managing all events internally to handing over to WMP

• Depth of partnership enables the internal team to focus resource elsewhere, knowing their client rides are taken care of to the same quality and precision

• Engagement and fundraising remain high, and brand perception of Action protected due to WMP working under the Action brand

Monster Triathlon Challenge Turn a one-off corporate fundraiser into a viable, annual public challenge event, that retains its uniqueness in the busy triathlon marketplace.

Solution Partnering with the Sabre Trust charity, we’ve extended their initial event from 2016, to create this epic seven-day Monster Triathlon.

Participants swim 5km in Loch Ness, cycle 550 miles over 5 days to Windsor, then a 50km ultra marathon to Richmond.

Entrants can support their own charity, or benefit from discounted places for fundraising for Sabre Trust.
