Creativi-Tree Art Quilts with Deborah Boschert Create a small art quilt with a beautifully original tree using a simple formula and interchangeable patterns. Plus, a small bonus art quilt with the same fabrics and inspiration. Explore layers of design using fabric, paint and stitch. Deborah will share several options for edge treatments and finishing techniques. Super fun, uncomplicated process and patterns make this a great project for enthusiastic beginners. Supply List • Four Fabrics You Love! • 11x14 focus fabric, a smallish print or batik • 11x14 tone on tone that coordinates with the focus fabric (mostly one color) • 11x14 solid that coordinates with the focus fabric OR adds a pop of color • 11x14 coordinating print that coordinates with the focus fabric At least one fabric should be dark and one should be light. You’ll need options for contrast. Fabrics don’t need to be measured exactly. They can be a little bigger. Or you can bring FQs and you can prepare them in the workshop. If you are unsure, feel free to bring options and I’ll help you choose. • 11x14 polyester felt and 10x10 piece of felt (You could substitute your favorite batting for felt.) • two yards Pellon Wonder Under or Misty Fuse fusible webbing (Or you can pre-fuse your four fabrics.) • iron and ironing station (or set up two or three ironing stations for the class) • two bottles of acrylic paint that coordinate with your fabric, one darkish and one lightish (I like Folk Art brand from Michaels.) • one sheet of sticky-back fun foam (One sheet is enough for about four students to share.) • two recycled styrofoam meat trays (or something similar like a styrofoam plate) • empty toilet paper tube • three skeins of embroidery floss that coordinate with your fabrics • embroidery needle (I like a size 8. Whatever you have that will fit three strands of floss is fine.) • scissors, rotary cutter and rotary mat • sketch book and pen and pencil • parchment paper (one large sheet, or a box for the class to share) • optional: sewing machine (You can spend the day designing, fusing, creating surface design and hand stitching, then add machine stitching at home.) • optional: thread that coordinates with fabric if you bring a sewing machine (Three to five colors will give you plenty of options to work with.) • optional: digital camera (You probably have one on your phone.) • optional: tracing paper • optional: your favorite fabric marking tool/pen • your creative spirit!
