DATABASE GUIDE SSRN – Social Science Research Network SSRN is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in the following areas: Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Information Systems, Legal scholarship, Management, Marketing, Negotiations and Insurance. There are over 114,000 abstracts and 86,000 full text documents as well as links to some fee based publications. Papers can be submitted online.

How to Access the Database To access this database go to: http://library.vu.edu.au 1. 2. 3. 4.

Click Databases & E-journals Select S, Then Social Science Research Network Please read general guidelines for database use Click Connect

Search the Database Browse the SSRN Library by drilling down via Network>Journal>Topic. To search, click on the search icon. Enter keywords. Designate whther you want to search in the title or abstract. Enter authors name. If more than one author separate names by a comma. You can limit by date.

Printing, Saving and email On the left of the abstract, click on ‘Document Delivery’. There will be options as to where you can download the pdf document from. There are options to pay if the document is not available in full text. You can download to My briefcase or email.

My Briefcase My Briefcase is a folder where you can save your searches and documents. To subscribe to SSRN: Click ‘subscribe’ Click on the “Network site licence Link’ of you choice Accounting Research Network Site licenses Economics Research Network Site licenses Financial Economics Network Site licenses Information Systems Network Legal Scholarship Network Site licenses Management Research Network Site licenses Social Insurance Research Network

Click on ‘click here’ to ‘Join an existing site’ Fill in the registration form You will receive an email with your username and password The approval will be sent which must be received before entering the site. To view recently viewed or downloaded papers, after logging in, click on “My Briefcase’. You can then choose to add them to your briefcase, download or email them to a friend. Endnote At the bottom of the page, there is a link to ‘Export to EndNote’ You will need to add your registration details for this service.

How to Set Up an Alert Once subscribed you will receive email alerts for new papers published with links to the full text, depending on which site you chose to subscribe to (see above).
