DELTAV FOR PLANT OPERATIONS
HOW ARE THE PROGRAMS DESIGNED? TERMS: Program: A program is the broad description of a curricula of courses. When it is designed to support the development of a learner over many years in their career, as in this case, it is made up of course levels with each level representing a credential. Course: A set of learning objects grouped by sections (including but not limited to the items below).
THEORY MODULE:
HOW-TO VIDEO:
The key concepts and information that will prepare the learner to watch the how-to videos or carry out the hands-on workshops.
A succinct video by an expert showing the best-practice completion of a coding or review activity.
Theory modules are taken as self-paced, on-line modules.
These how-to videos are excellent examples to watch in advance of carrying out hands-on workshops and useful to use as reference materials.
HANDS-ON WORKSHOP: A key activity for the learner where the task instructions and completions are very specific and illustrated as necessary with highlighted system images.
Portfolio Assessment: A collection of objective and alternative assessments. • Hands-On Workshop Skills Assessment: A timed and graded skills assessment to demonstrate ability. • Theory Assessment: A timed and graded knowledge assessment to demonstrate understanding.
LEARNING PATHS: To support multiple ‘entry-points’ for learners who have already gained related industry knowledge and technical experience different learning paths are possible. For example, an individual who is already comfortable navigating DeltaV and interpreting the screen symbols could take an assessment as a prerequisite to learning about the DeltaV Batch Operator Interface (if that is the topic that is new to them).

WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE TYPICALLY REQUIRED OF PLANT OPERATIONS PERSONNEL?
Having invested significantly in your DeltaV control system you are likely reflecting on how your Operations personnel will need to be both competent and confident in their use of DeltaV to maximize your investment. Your Operations personnel need to accurately interpret what the control system is telling them in order to effectively monitor and safely govern your process. Consider some of the knowledge and skills they will require to do this: Understand how a DeltaV system fits into the wider context of automation systems within your industry sector Understand the use of 21CFR/Electronic Signatures as part of system security Is aware of the various DeltaV software applications they will have access to
DELTAV SYSTEM
Know which DeltaV software application to select to find different types of system information Recognize the basic network architecture of a DeltaV system Understand the basic hardware components of a DeltaV system and can explain their purpose Able to find and open any graphic, faceplate or detail faceplate through more than one method Understand the color conventions of dynamos used on graphics
DELTAV GRAPHICS
Can explain the features of a faceplate and detail faceplate (both Analog and Digital devices) Able to find and effectively use the history lists Able to recognize and use relevant toolbar buttons Can list the different alarm types Can list the different alarm priorities
DELTAV ALARMS
Can give a full description of an alarm shown Can state the purpose of buttons on the Alarm Summary List Can list different ways to acknowledge alarms An understanding of different types of processes and what is particular to batch processes and batch production.
DELTAV BATCH
A clear understanding of the physical model, process cell classification, procedural control, recipes, and formulas in accordance with S88/S95 Can state the purpose of the DeltaV BOI Can state which toolbar buttons can alter the screen views or manage batches Know the correct sequence in loading, starting and completing a batch recipe

HOW CAN WE HELP?
Our team have considerable experience in designing and delivery of DeltaV training to many hundreds of Operations personnel. We have often observed that such training events have a broad mix of personnel with various levels of knowledge, experience, and confidence in using control systems yet all still need to satisfy rigorous training requirements for the dual purposes of ensuring personnel effectiveness and satisfying training record audits. For these equally important reasons, Horizon Controls Group recommend the use of a thorough PreAssessment, to gauge the competence (that is, both knowledge and skills) of personnel in advance of taking any course-ware. This way those who can prove they already have the knowledge and skills can do so without re-directing their time from shift responsibilities. However, those who have not had exposure to the technology or require refresher training can avail of targeted materials to boost their knowledge and abilities to the required level.

POST-ASSESSMENT For the courses above Horizon Controls Group have developed a DeltaV code base and graphics well suited to train Operations personnel in the use of DeltaV in a Life Sciences industry context. These courses are especially recommended if the DeltaV graphics for your site will not be commissioned for use by the time you need to upskill you personnel.
However, to accommodate companies that require their Operations personnel to be fully comfortable with their own graphics, dynamos, faceplates, and recipes there are various customization options for each type of learning object as illustrated here. Reach out to us to discuss your needs and define a clear solution and cost that will best benefit your organization and your team. Pricing available on request from
