The Real Challenge: Global Demand Requires More Food • By 2050, the global population will increase from 6.8 billion to 9 billion • Global food demand will increase by 100% due to population and middleclass growth – Consumers want choice – 20% of additional food will come from new farmland – 10% will come from increased cropping intensity – 70% will need to come from continued use of safe, efficacious technology to increase productivity
