THE NONINVASIVE METHODS OF PHYSIOLOGICAL EXPERIMENT: DEVELOPMENT AND USAGE

St-Peterburg «DORN» 2012

ABSTRACT

A l b e r t i n S.V. The non-invasive methods of physiological experiment: development and usage. DORN, St-Peterburg, 2011, 135 pages. Monograph presents the results of experimental physiological studies aimed at understanding negative effects following usage of unreliable methods in physiological experiment particularly relating to restriction of animal mobility as well as using the aversive physical procedures and distressful psychogenic stimuli. Materials presented suggest the alternative methods for noninvasive studying of physiological functions, developed in Pavlov Institute of Physiology. The book gives a detailed classification of invasive influences considering the ethical and legal aspects on the treatment of experimental animals and describes newest innovations developed to identify, eliminate or minimize negative invasive effects. Recommendations for optimal usage of new non-invasive physiological methods which provide studying the normal physiological functions of living organism are given as well. A separate chapter of the monograph is devoted to the issue, which are not fully covered in the earlier published textbooks and methodological national manuals: the international rules on ethical treatment of experimental animals, knowledge of and compliance with which is a prerequisite for successful research and obtaining reliable scientific results. The book can be used as a manual for teachers and students of medical and biological institutions studying lecture course "Human and animal physiology", as well as for students of technical universities under studying the practical courses "Scientific instruments" and "Machinery and medical equipment" (335 ref., 37 fig., 7 tab.).
