Acknowledgement of Expectations for Summer 1. I understand that a summer class is meant to be the equivalent of the same class during the school year, with the same academic rigor. Each semester of each class requires approximately 75 hours of class time plus homework. Being successful in a summer course will require a comparable amount of time invested. Payment of the course fee does not ensure a passing grade. 2. I understand that my effort during the school year was not sufficient to pass the course. I also understand that, without a significant improvement in that effort, I am not likely to pass the summer course. If I do not pass the summer course with a 60% or above, then I will repeat the course during the next school year. 3. Homework scores will make up 20% of my summer grade, while the final exam will be 80%. The final exam will be closely comparable to the exam from school year, and it will be scored the same way. 4. I understand that late work is NOT accepted for credit under any circumstance. Assignments are due BEFORE office hours each week. If I am going to be out of town, I understand that I will have to get my work done and submitted early. Since I will have the schedule for the entire summer, it will be easy to know what I need to do ahead of time. 5. I understand that my instructor will be available for 1 hour per week during predetermined office hours. During this time I can ask any questions that I have; however, I acknowledge that I am entirely responsible for my own learning. It will not be possible for my instructor to teach me all of the material for the course. If I require significant instruction, then it will be up to me to hire a tutor. 6. I understand that my instructor will respond to e-mails in a timely manner (within 24-48 hours) but not immediately. 7. If I would like to take the final exam early, it will be up to me to arrange a time with my instructor to do so.
