pare a thought h h ffor the h women off yesteryear who, h iin their h quest for hairless skin, used flint, resin and even sharks’ teeth to achieve that sought-after smoothness. The desire to remove unwanted hair has not gone out of fashion, but technology has made things a lot easier and arguably less painful. The invention of safety razors was regarded as a breakthrough in the 20th century, but what would our great-grandmothers have made of laser treatments? It has never been easier for women to remove unwanted hair quickly and efficiently. And probably the best bit is not having to do it yourself, but leaving it to the experts!

Diana King 25E Lorong Liput, Holland Village 6468 7965 www.thewaxingguru.com Diana King’s name is well known in Singapore’s female circles. Her reputation precedes her, as does her claim to wax at “lightning speed”. But we like her forthright explanation that waxing is painful, so the faster it’s done, the better. A beauty therapist with more than ten years’ experience, Diana specialises in Brazilian waxing. “Waxing faster is better because the pain is minimised,” she says. “There’s no such thing as pampering with wax.” Diana’s ten-minute waxing time means you hardly have a moment to anticipate what’s to come. Just lie back and think about the beach. Diana’s top waxing tips: • Start early. By the time you reach your early twenties there’ll be little hair to worry about. • Aftercare: Take a cold shower to close the pores. It’s advisable to use an exfoliation scrub only on the third day after waxing. • Ingrown hairs: This can be due to shaving, epilatory devices or a bad wax, when the hair is broken instead of being cleanly removed at the root. Use a facial exfoliant scrub, as a body scrub is too harsh in the sensitive bikini area. Scrub every other day until the next waxing session. In time, the ingrown hairs will be gone forever. • Upper lip: Diana recommends threading instead of waxing. Threading lasts for at least three to four weeks.
