about the film synopsis everything’s gone green is the first story from popular writer Douglas Coupland written specifically for the screen. In what is a sly comment on the times since his first publication of “Generation X” a decade ago, Douglas Coupland brings us a comedy set in the ever-growing world divided in two: winners & losers. Ryan, a lovable twenty-something, is trying hard not to try hard but is surrounded by over-achievers. His hippie friend has gone capitalistic in a not-so-legal way. His older brother has always been capitalistic in a legal if not-so-ethical way. And his father, after losing his job and faith in the system, has found profitable promise outside of the establishment. Even the woman he desires is comfortable in being taken care of by a big-time car thief. Ryan falls into a job as a reporter/photographer for “Winners!” a crappy local lottery magazine that’s given away for free at supermarkets. Over time, he interviews an assortment of prize winners and discovers how their good fortune is not so good. As things look dismal, Ryan is tempted into a money laundering scheme that rewards him with a new muscle car, leather clothes and the opportunity to move closer to the woman he’s found a wonderful connection with. Ryan, his family and his friends continue to chase their monetary goals trying not to fall into the crack between the “have” & “have-nots” but their dreams come to a bust. Literally. A reality-check comes in the form of a SWAT team of police. Just asDouglas Coupland has done in the past, new questions are raised about the period we live in. Is it possible to just drift into the new century? Are the middle-class facing extinction? When is “enough” enough? And is there any hope that not everyone wants to be a millionaire.

about the writer douglas coupland douglas coupland is perhaps best known as the internationally best-selling author of “Generation X: Tales of an Accelerated Culture”. As of late, has expanded his expertise by writing EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN, his first story written specifically for the screen. Coupland’s interest in Generation X first emerged in a 1988 article for Vancouver magazine. He continued the project in a strip created for Vista magazine in Toronto. St. Martin’s Press in New York City asked him to write a guide to Generation X, something on the model of the Yuppie Handbook in the fall of 1989. Instead, Coupland moved to Palm Springs, California, to write his first book, “Generation X”.

“(Generation X) a completely new, genuine genre of bohemianism.”

– San Francisco Chronicle, 1991

Douglas has been credited with conceiving the term and concept of Generation X but after the publication of “Generation X”, he has repeatedly resisted being called the spokesperson for his generation. “I speak for myself, not for a generation. I never have.” Coupland now lives in Vancouver. His eighteen novels to date are: 1991 1992 1994 1995 1996 1998 1998 1999

Douglas Coupland’s greatest achievement as a writer is his uncanny insight into what ails our culture. His ability to capture zeitgeist of the moment and provide a new perspective has garnered a popularity that has transcended borders. His books have been translated into 22 languages and sold in 30 countries. Coupland is also a regular contributor to The New York Times, New Republic and ArtForum. His on-going design experiments include everything from launching a line of furniture for Pure Design to Absolut vodka ads for the New Yorker. His journalism ranges from a short story on Dolly the cloned sheep in Time magazine to guest-editing special issues for Vancouver Magazine. By having a huge successful career as an international writer, Douglas has return to his first artistic disciple of creating and touring the world with his sculptural collections entitled Spike, Canada House and SuperCity. After completing the script for EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN, Douglas went on to write “Mom’s Cookies” for Disney films. And recently, “Generation X” has been optioned and “All Families Are Psychotic” has been optioned by Dreamworks. coupland.com

about the key art key art preliminary exploration

The visual strategy employed for marketing the film should leverage the visual power of money as a flexible, detailed and attention grabbing visual device. It is the essential ingredient for a quick and universal presentation of the films core themes. The key art should also capture the film’s satirical nature of the film and would benefit from being simple and more esoteric. A contemporary, multi-media design approach which could be rich with illustrated themes or layers of the story. A visual approach much like Coupland’s own art styles. Regardless of final execution, the key art should possess an arresting image that reflects the over arching social commentary of the film. A simple image that communicates the risk, treachery, misguided ambition and loss.

THE CREATIVE CONCEPTS AND ARTWORK PRESENTED IN THIS DOCUMENT ARE NOT INTENDED FOR DISTRIBUTION.

concept a

covered in money A dramatic or comedic visual demonstration of the films title. Ryan (Paulo) covered in money, or in this case, a single bill afixed to his forehead as symbol of that which both intrigues and ails him.
