examination

Certification

The purpose of the examination is to guarantee the required competencies in the concrete certification field. Depending on the desired qualification, one or several of the following partial examinations can be required: • Written examination • Practical examination • Expert discussion • Project work • Presentation

The concrete examination methods are defined in so-called “Certification Programmes”, which participants receive in the courses or can download from our website, where they are to be found along with the examination dates.

4

Certifications serve to corroborate the actual competence of a given person. Consequently, TUV AUSTRIA only issues certificates with limited validity. The validity period extends – depending on the concrete qualification – to between 3 and 5 years. At the end of this period, the extension is subject to certain requirements (confirmation of further education, written examination, proof of practical experience, etc.). The actual periods of validity, as well as the relevant recertification methods, are described in the “Certification Programmes”.

Certification Credentials Certifications are corroborated by the person certificate issued by TUV AUSTRIA. Additionally, the name and acquired qualification of all certified individuals are published on the TUV AUSTRIA website.

Re-Certification

Consistent participation in the chosen course, successful completion of the relevant examination(s) and the fulfilment of other requirements (if any) result in the awarding of the certification sought.

Plant Safety

>>> Solutions for more safety

General View

Nowadays, prevention of incidents in process plants is crucial for more than one reason. On the one hand, such incidents can cause very significant financial losses, particularly in association with longer downtimes of production facilities. On the other hand, there is no acceptance and tolerance for damage to people and the environment, both on the side of the authorities and of the public at large. In-depth expertise in the methodology and the standards of plant safety is an essential pre-requirement for the detection of incident potential and the implementation of preventive measures.

Specialized Seminars

Basics of Process Safety

Basic Elements of Process Safety will be covered: • Process Safety Culture – relevant aspects which influence process safety performance • Hazard and Risk Analysis – goals, methods and restrictions. • Human Factors – contribution of human error aspects to process safety • Consequence Analysis – Event trees, toxic dispersion, fire and explosion modeling techniques • Bow-Tie methodology • Asset Integrity & Functional Safety: basics of RBI for pressure equipment, functional safety for active protection measures. • Learning from Incidents and Near Misses Duration: 2 days Course-No.: 13.101.023.00 Language: English, German, Greek, Arabic

Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)

Layer of protection analysis (LOPA) is a quantitative tool for analyzing and assessing risk on a process plant. It uses an order of magnitude technique to evaluate the adequacy of existing or proposed layers of protection against known hazards. LOPA typically builds on the information developed during a qualitative hazard evaluation and can be used to meet the risk assessment requirements of IEC 61508 and 61511. The course will cover the theory as well as the application of the methodology for process relevant scenarios. Duration: 1 day Course-No.: 13.101.025.00 Language: English, German, Greek

Consequence Analysis of Industrial Accidents

10

Fire and explosion effects assessment as well as dispersion modeling render vital information on the effects of industrial accidents on-site and off-site. By this, safety critical elements survivability, domino effects and emergency planning considerations can be evaluated. The results can also be used for QRA (full quantitative risk analysis) and OBRA (occupied building risk assessment). Several examples of effects assessment and dispersion modeling by usage of the software Effects® will be shown. Duration: 2 days Course-No.: 13.101.026.00 Language: English, German, Greek

Functional Safety

Safety integrated function are common in the process industries to protect against dangerous exceeding of process parameters. EN 61508 and EN 61511 define “Safety Integrity Levels” (SIL) as well as requirements for the whole lifecycle of such functions. The course covers the different tasks of the safety lifecycle like risk assessment and SIL classification, verification, validation, development of bypass and functional testing strategies. Duration: 2 days Course-No.: 13.101.016.00 Language: English, German, Greek

Basics of Risk Based Inspection (RIMAP)

RBI is a key tool to evaluate current inspection plans and to determine priorities for inspections of pressure equipment. By this, critical contributors to risk are identified, economic optimum levels of inspection with respect to the risks are defined and future plans for decision making are established. The essential steps of an RBI analysis, like assessment of the probability of failure (PoF) and the consequence of Failure (CoF) according to the principles of the European RIMAP methodology, as described in the CEN Workshop Agreement CWA 15740, will be discussed. Within the used approach, the effort of the analysis is rather on lifetime assessment and establishing inspections plans for equipment than on calculating effects of leakages in very much detail. Duration: 1 day Course-No.: 13.101.019.00 Language: English, German, Greek
