Extraction of wisdom teeth continues to be one of the most common operations carried out in oral surgery depts. and patients often don’t wish to be placed on long waiting lists, then be operated on by a different clinician to the initial consultation. At CDRC patients can book their consultation to discuss the procedure with the clinician who will be carrying out the surgery. For impacted wisdom teeth, surgery is usually carried out under intra venous sedation allowing patients to be relaxed and unaware of the procedure meanwhile avoiding the risks associated with general anaesthesia.
I thought I’d give you an update on the oral surgery services which are offered at CDRC. I have been working in hospital and practice based oral surgery for the past 20 years, at CDRC we offer a full range of oral surgery services from wisdom tooth extraction, frenectomy, excisions of bony exostoses, soft tissue assessments, biopsy and pre-prosthetic surgery. For clinicians who are placing their own implants we offer a sinus lift/bone graft service for the patient then to be returned to the referring dentist for the implant to be placed.
Mandibular torii can be carefully excised using ultrasonic piezosurgery.
As well as the full range of clinical procedures carried out at CDRC, we also run training courses in oral surgery and implant dentistry. The hands on nature of our training courses is always popular we use animal jaws to simulate the feel and handling of hard and soft tissue surgery.
We benefit greatly from the diagnostic imaging that the iCAT ii Cone Beam CT scanner gives. Having our own scanner in house means we can clearly visualize anatomy and pathology and discuss the findings with patients at the time of initial consultation. The radiation dose of a single arch 4.5 seconds is equivalent to that of an OPG at approx.15 microsev which allows careful and precise planning of the surgery.
