Capacity for success A huge amount of cargo space, very compact exterior dimensions, the highest possible degree of reliability – the Vito is an object lesson in how to create a panel van which meets all the classic requirements. And it defines how state-ofthe-art vehicle technology can be applied to the commercial sector to produce a wide range of variants capable of meeting highly specific requirements. Take the engines for example: the Vito is available with a choice of five high-performance powerplants – three CDI diesels with outputs from 65 to 110 kW (88 to 150 hp) and two petrol units which develop 140 and 170 kW (190 and 231 hp) respectively. You can also match the cargo space to your requirements by choosing from no less than three different body lengths: n the compact Vito (overall length 4.75 m/ wheelbase 3200 mm) n the long Vito (4.99 m/3200 mm) n the extra-long Vito (5.22 m/3430 mm)
The optional high roof which is available for the long Vito provides additional interior height in the cargo space. Equipped to take a load off your mind With a cargo volume of up to 6.49 m3 (long Vito with high roof) and a payload of up to 980 kg (or, optionally, 1150 kg), the Vito is ideally suited to a very wide range of transport jobs. Wide-opening doors and a low loading height make for easy loading and even allow fork-lift access (after all, up to three Europallets can be accommodated in line, depending on the body length). Once you’re on your way, the newly developed chassis and the rear-wheel-drive layout ensure dynamic, neutral handling at all times – even when the vehicle is fully laden. Driving safety is also enhanced significantly by the standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP ) which is complemented by anti-lock braking (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR), electronic brake force distribution (EBV) and Brake Assist (BAS). The Vito
follows in the long tradition of Mercedes-Benz vans by offering not only superb handling, exemplary cargo space and an ergonomically designed interior, but also the highest levels of reliability, safety and economy. The key factors which contribute to the latter include significantly longer maintenance intervals and the standard ASSYST maintenance computer, thanks to which you can look forward to reassuringly low maintenance costs. Because fitting your business also means fitting your balance sheet.

Because one size doesn’t fit all From express courier firms to plumbers and builders, from service industries to vehicle hire companies, retailers and municipal services – the applications and activities which call for panel vans are as extensive and varied as the possibilities for configuring the Vito: with a choice of two wheelbases, three body lengths, the optional high roof for the long Vito and a selection of door variants, it is possible to match the Vito precisely to the requirements of your organisation. Regardless of whether you work predominantly in an urban environment, in which it is often necessary to turn, manoeuvre and park, or if you tend to spend more time on motorways or at construction sites, the Vito range has what you’re looking for. An all-important
factor is the ratio of the exterior dimensions to the cargo space: every centimetre of the Vito’s length and width is used to the full. For example, at 1277 mm, the loading width has been calculated specifically to allow Europallets to be loaded widthwise between the wheel arches. Depending on the body length, up to three such pallets can be loaded in this way. The TOP LOAD equipment package TOP LOAD is ideal for anyone who frequently has to transport long or bulky items. The package comprises a set of basic carrier bars for the roof, a matching ladder rack with roller and a set of cargo-lashing straps.

And because time is money, we have made sure that the Vito offers maximum flexibility not only for loading and unloading, but also for securing the load quickly and reliably. The six standard anchoring lugs can be complemented with a rail system fitted to the side walls and loadcompartment floor which allows even greater flexibility when securing the load.

With space for up to six occupants in addition to a sizeable load of cargo, the Vito Mixto is in its element whenever there’s a need to transport people as well as equipment or goods. It goes without saying that this variant of the Vito also offers an outstanding degree of flexibility: you can choose between standard and high-roof models (long Vito), the practical standard version and the superb COMFORT package, not to mention various seating configurations and numerous individualisation options.
The most economical way of carrying passengers and cargo Three characteristics identify the Mixto as a combination of panel van and crewbus: the partially glazed load compartment between the B and C pillars, the tough wooden floor and the anchoring points for an optional row of rear seats. As well as providing comfortable, spacious accommodation for up to six people and offering a dynamic driving experience, the Mixto offers all the benefits of a competent load carrier with optimum cargo-space and payload characteristics. The figures speak for themselves: with loading lengths of 1.40 m to 1.88 m (depending on vehicle length) between the rear bench seat and the tailgate or rear doors, all three body lengths provide plenty of space for cargo and equipment.

Tailoring – off the peg Cool operator The Vito with refrigerated body is based on the long version with a regular roof. This vehicle meets the new DIN standard for refrigerated vehicles (heat transfer coefficient of well under 0.4 W/m2K) and can, as an option, maintain temperatures down to –20 °C. In addition to the new insulation and refrigeration system, the meticulously designed equipment is also impressive: side panel guide rails come as standard, as do an integrated drainage system and aluminium

flooring. One further notable feature is that the refrigeration system operates independently of the engine, so that the driver and co-driver can at last enjoy the benefits of factoryfitted air conditioning.

If you’re looking for it, we’ve got it Comprising no less than two wheelbases, three body lengths, an optional high roof and a selection of door variants, the Vito range allows you to configure vehicles which are capable of coping with the most diverse transport jobs and load situations in the class up to 3 tonnes. Every variant has its own distinct character and specific capabilities: with its 475 exceptionally dynamic and manoeuvrable centimetres, the compact Vito measures up admirably when it comes to coping with difficult entrances, tight parking spaces and congested city centres. The long Vito has the same 3200 mm wheelbase but a 245 mm longer rear overhang – all of which benefits the cargo space without impacting the vehicle’s handling or manoeuvrability. The extra-long Vito, which features an extended 3430 mm wheelbase, quite simply offers a vast amount of space.

A perfect package The keys to success are drive, determination and staying power – qualities which are particularly evident in the Vito. Its newly developed chassis, advanced electronic systems and high-torque engines make every mile something to relish – whether you’re driving in town, on the open road or just going to the other end of the construction site.
Rear-wheel drive: proven to be the best Regardless of the engine version you choose, you’ll be impressed by the dynamic characteristics of the Vito. These are above all a consequence of the intelligent design concept, a key feature of which is the rear-wheel drive layout. This arrangement offers huge advantages for a van’s dynamic handling properties, manoeuvrability and safety. It keeps torque-steer effects to an absolute minimum and ensures that the handling always retains its forgiving character – a particularly important safety factor when dealing with a permissible
gross vehicle weight as high as 2.94 t, a towing capacity of up to 2.5 t and a gross combination weight of up to 5.3 t. And rear-wheel drive also has a positive effect on the Vito’s turning circles: at just 11.80 m (short wheelbase) and 12.50 m (long wheelbase) they are reassuringly small. As well as enhancing handling, rear-wheel drive offers better climbing and traction characteristics than front-wheel drive because it is the driven rear axle that takes the weight of the load. This characteristic is invaluable when moving off on a slope and when towing a trailer.
The ideal combination of power and control In addition to the drive concept, the standard Electronic Stability Program ESP and the independent suspension also play a key role in the Vito’s safe handling characteristics. The impressive suspension comfort can be increased even further with the optional air suspension at the rear axle: as well as providing a superbly smooth and comfortable ride, and being as gentle as possible on the cargo, this option includes an automatic level control feature which maintains the vehicle at a constant level regardless of the payload.

The best of both worlds: high performance and low fuel consumption The CDI engines: dynamic and powerful The Vito is available with a choice of three second-generation CDI diesel engines which open up a new dimension of power and performance. It’s something you’ll notice right from your very first drive, every time you accelerate out of a bend, move off from the traffic lights or join a motorway. Because it is precisely in the all-important low-rev range that the three powerplants offer a degree of pulling power which makes for an extremely engaging driving experience. All three units owe their high power output and impressive
torque curves, which peak at 330 Nm in the top-of-the-range powerplant, to the consistent use of the very latest engine architecture: second-generation common-rail direct-injection diesel technology, 4 valves per cylinder, a 1600 bar injection system and a turbocharger with a variable nozzle turbine*, to mention just a few of the many highlights. Good fuel economy figures (from just 6.7 litres per 100 km) complement the enhanced power and performance to complete the compelling overall impression created by these engines. A diesel particulate filter** is available as an option.
The petrol engines: lively performance at its smoothest Two advanced V6 petrol engines with displacements of 3.2 litres (140 kW/190 hp) and 3.7 litres (170 kW/231 hp) are the ideal alternatives if you are looking for a unit which combines dynamic performance with extremely smooth operation. The safety concept: more is better Nothing fits your business better – a claim which the Vito lives up to not only with its outstanding practicality and economy, but also with its exemplary safety concept. Once again, the Vito demonstrates to great effect that, even in the van sector, it is possible to put the needs of the user first.
Safety: a key design principle The continuous growth in traffic levels both in urban areas and on motorways makes itself felt in every aspect of van operations and brings home the need for up-to-date safety equipment. As you would expect, this is another area where the Vito refuses to compromise. In fact, it makes the high safety standards of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars available to van users, too. The result: with its wealth of safety features, the Vito meets even the highest standards of active and passive safety – with everything from an advanced stability system to intelligent features for securing the load.
Circuits that keep you on track The standard equipment of the Vito includes the Electronic Stability Program (ESP ) which also incorporates the anti-lock braking system (ABS) in combination with acceleration skid control (ASR), electronic brake force distribution (EBV) and the Brake Assist system (BAS). Together, these systems greatly improve directional stability and traction in critical situations. Working in conjunction with the Vito’s powerful brake system, ABS, BAS and EBV keep stopping distances reassuringly short and ensure that the vehicle remains easy to control, even during emergency braking.

Take-back of end-of-life vehicles. Coming full circle At the end of its long life, you can return your Vito to us for environment-friendly disposal in accordance with the EU End-Of-Life Vehicle Directive. But that day lies a long way off. The take-back of end-of-life vehicles applies in accordance with national regulations to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross weight. The Vito meets the statutory regulations governing the suitability of the vehicle’s design for reuse and recycling. A network of vehicle take-back depots and dismantlers has been established which will process your vehicle in an environmentfriendly manner. The ways in which both vehicles and parts can be recovered are subject to ongoing development and improvement. Consequently, the Vito will be able to comply with any future increases in the recycling quota within the stipulated time limits. For further information, please call 00800 1 777 7777.
