Extras This is an old school tarot deck, it’s just the deck no bells and whistles, or extras.
What Makes Druidcraft Great? • The size - it’s easy to see and easy to read with (and lots of blank space on the back to make notes on) • The images are very closely modeled on the Rider-Waite-Smith making them easy to learn on & universal when it comes to studying • Lots of information in the images, but not too abstract • The book has tons of info, it’s a great resource • Steady, reliable deck to learn on (you’ll always remember your first deck and this is a good one to be carrying around in your head - though I may be biased as I learnt on it!)
Why You Might Not Like Druidcraft • It’s so big some people find it hard to shuffle them • No real people depicted - all white, skinny people • Nudity on at least 4-5 cards • Nothing spectacular about the art • The art just isn’t speaking to you
Who Should Buy the Druidcraft Tarot? If you practice (or are interested) in a Druid based spirituality - or love Celtic history - then you want this deck, it was specifically designed for you. If you are British, or come from that background, then this deck might appeal to you. You’ll also really like this deck if you have this thing about traditional decks - like you think you should learn on one - but the Rider Waite has nothing to say to you.
What the Druidcraft Has to Say About Itself? I asked the Druidcraft Tarot what you and I needed to know about it if we were considering buying/using it and this is what it had to say about itself. The Cards I got:
The Positions: 1. Tell me about yourself: what is your most important characteristic? ! Prince (Knight) of Wands 2. What are your strengths? - 4 of Swords 3. What are your limits? - 2 of Pentacles 4. What can you teach me? What do you bring to the table? - The Sun (Rx) 5. How can I best learn from/work with you? - The Hermit (Rx) 6. What kind of situations/questions should I use you for? - Prince (Knight) of Pentacles (Rx) The Interpretation: This deck is great for sparking inspiration, for lighting a fire of an idea that will also move you onward - it’s a “New Idea” deck: new ideas about the aspects of your life that you bring to it and new ideas about the tarot itself. Again, we see a deck that has no cups in this spread, but this is it’s only sword, and it’s not a card about going in swinging. So we know that the Druidcraft’s strengths lie in the area of study and contemplation. This is a deck you can sit down with and really stop and chew into a subject. This deck will also be valuable when you need to make a plan before you move you into action. This deck is weakest when it comes to practical limitations and decision making. It’s not at it’s strongest when you are trying to weigh the pros and cons, or make decisions that are strongly influenced by the tangible areas of your life (like finances). If you wanted to contemplate the field of work that would best express your passion, yes - if you want guidance on which job offer you should take, not so much. This one is easy, the Druidcraft teaches us about enlightenment and joy in experience. If you are the kind of person who likes to ask the deeper questions in life with the tarot (a tarot philosopher shall we say) then the Druidcraft will be a solid companion on your journey to understand the universe, or even just your life.
Our part in the relationship is to come with an attitude of introspection, the deck will provide us with answers and food for thought when we show up as the seeker. It’s interesting that this card is often associated with taking on the role of being a guide, of providing a light for those who might follow behind you, while The Sun card tells us that what this deck brings is unequivocal light. So, if you use it, with the intent of lighting a lamp that others can follow, the Druidcraft will provide you with the light that you need. The Prince (or Knight) of Pentacles tells us that the things best suited to this deck are questions that aren’t time sensitive, pick the things where you want to move into the root of the matter, rather than the surface or action focused questions. You’ll have to work your way into the answers that the Druidcraft gives you, but this knight is dependable, loyal, and honest. A good promise for the conversations to come!
