Description The Dugong and Marine Turtles Comprehensive Biological Research in Mayo and Pujada Bay Protected Seascape and Landscape is a research project of the DENR 11 in collaboration with the City of Mati, RICXI-DOSCST (Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology) and the Provincial ENRO. The Project has two major components: a) determination of dugong and marine turtle population sizes and distribution in Mayo Bay and Pujada Bay and b) comparative analysis through bioassay of tissue samples of various large marine mammals. The results of this study will be used to determine mitigating measures to minimize the threats of these marine organism against constant anthropogenic activities. Further, this will provide substantial understanding parallel to the behavior of these animals in the wild which will be used to uphold the laws stipulated in RA 9147 for the sustainability of marine biodiversity in the area.

Expected Outputs    

Thorough information on its local and some notes on other large marine mammal international migration patterns; Substantial understanding of their threats parallel to constant human activities in the ocean; Local baseline data with a significant global impact; Understanding of its economic value relative to ecotourism.
