About ARM : The ARM Climate Research Program from the Department of Energy (DOE) of USA, with 20 years of operations, has been providing data to advance research from atmospheric observations at diverse climatic regimes around the world. ARM sites provides highresolution data of cloud, aerosol, surface, thermodynamic and radiative fluxes and interactions, using the most updated technologies and accurate methodologies, contributing to the understanding of the climatic mechanisms including climate change, and to its representation in the climate numerical models.

scientific question: The extensive coverage of low clouds over the subtropical eastern oceans greatly impacts the current climate. In the future, the response of low clouds to changes in atmospheric greenhouse gases and aerosols is a major source of uncertainty that thwarts accurate prediction of future climate change, and its representation in the numerical models.

Why Azores? Azores have been identified as having the mix condition to becoming an fixed site, focused on the life cycle and characteristics of marine startocumulos clouds and ocean atmosphere interactions.
