what is Project Presentation & Description DidaTec, a word which associates the “didactic” process with “technology”, started as an initiative of the main technical universities in Romania for the effective implementation of modern educational instruments and blendedlearning technologies in the teaching-learning activity. The project's mission is to create the necessary framework for the adaptation of the current higher education environment in the field of engineering and technical sciences to a world and a way of living that follows the digital revolution. The vision in mind is that of a true, active and engaging experience for the university student, based on her/his gadgetfilled life in which science and engineering blend in, having the teacher as a companion. With the opportunity and support of the European Union's structural funds scheme, the initiative revolves around the “DidaTec – Lifelong learning and training for higher education teachers in the technical sciences and engineering fields” project POSDRU/87/1.3/S/60891, co-financed by the partner universities and by the European Social Fund through the Sectoral Operational Programme for Human Resources 2007-2013. The project, implemented over a period of 36 months (September 1, 2010 – August 31, 2013) benefits from an overall budget of approx. Euro 4.5 million.

Lifelong learning and training of higher education teachers from the technical sciences and engineering fields

Project Objective The general objective of the project is the improvement of education and training processes in the technical higher education (engineering sciences) through a complete and unitary program (national approach) of lifelong learning and training for higher education teachers. The project's aim is the acquiring of competencies in interactive techniques of teaching & learning and IT&C, as a key factor for a relevant education in accordance with the specific needs of the economy. Mainly, this is to be achieved by: implementing a pilot program consisting of 6 courses on modern educational instruments and the use of IT&C for over 800 existing higher education teachers; implementing a mentorship program for over 200 young specialists/professionals starting a career in the field of engineering education; offering assistance and technical guidance for restructuring over 900 courses taught in universities throughout Romania in the field of engineering education.

Specific Objectives In the context of the more general objective of the project, the specific objectives to be achieved are the following: 1. The consolidation of intra- and inter-university cooperation as well as the cooperation with other interested actors, for the development of an efficient system of education and training for higher education teachers in the field of engineering sciences; 2. The elaboration of a “Standard of quality for the program of lifelong learning and training for higher education teachers & trainers” and of a “Personal development plan” & “Career plan” - guidelines for the higher education teachers; 3. At an institutional level, the acquiring of competencies, and the development of procedures and methodologies in what concerns the organization, implementation and promotion of lifelong learning and training programs; 4. The training and assistance of teachers for the successful use of modern teaching & learning techniques (based on the support provided by IT&C and the integrated instruments for educational activity management); 5. The professional/personal development of entry-level young teachers through the implementation of a mentoring program. 6. The improvement of human resource involved in teaching activities through the creation of a knowledge and communication platform to sustain future actions and collaboration.

The project will influence directly over 1,000 beneficiaries performing in technical universities in Romania during the implementation period, and an indirect estimate of over 20,000 students in the following 3 years.

Project Activities In order to reach such goals an integrated multidimensional approach of the activities was adopted, based on the following: 1. Concept: general framework for development and functioning; 2. Study Program: activities related to the specificity of defining and implementing a study program (initial and continuous training); 3. The development, implementation & integration of an on-line integrated support platform; 4. The development of human resources: conducting pilot training programs, mentoring programs and organizing training and working visits/exchanges; 5.

Management and promotion.

Major Results Aimed 6 courses on modern educational instruments and the use of IT&C for over 800 existing higher education teachers 1 mentorship program for over 200 young specialists 900 taught courses in the field of engineering, restructured according to blended-learning principles and extensive use of IT&C
