EVERNOTE DEVCUP 2013 – DETAIL FOR JUDGES AND REVIEWERS TaskClone is Putting Evernote to Work by making items associated with Evernote checkboxes actionable in dozens of task apps and Google Calendar.

Design. Is the application polished, visually appealing, and easy to use?

Effective use of Evernote API. Does the application take advantage of the unique functionality offered by the Evernote platform?

 TaskClone’s website makes use of responsive design so it works well at any screen resolution.  The homepage has a short video (< 2min) that describes the need and how TaskClone meets it.  Setup takes less 3 minutes with several tutorials, screenshots and videos on setup and usage.  Both the Homepage and Settings page make targeted use of Javascript and AJAX to guide the user. For example, the setup steps are comprised of 3 tabs that appear one at a time as the user moves through the process with other visual cues.  Forms make use of icons and color-coded information to guide users.  Hover effects on desktop work as click effects on touchscreens (e.g. iOS, Android).  Because it’s a background service, TaskClone does not require user to change their habits.  TaskClone has its own unique branding and only uses Evernote trademarks to identify the integration with Evernote.

 TaskClone actually expands on the unique functionality of the Evernote API.  By allowing users to extract sub-items (i.e. todos/tasks), TaskClone opens a world of possibilities to make those items actionable.  The primary usage is for tasks and events, but we have used Zapier.com to test integrations as broad as updating databases and sending tweets.  TaskClone makes extensive of the Cloud API for: - Authorization. To provide TaskClone access to user accounts. - Webhooks. To identify notes with unchecked todos. - Get/Update. To poll for new/updated notes and add a “skip code” to tasks after cloning, so they are cloned once.  TaskClone integrate Cloud API with G+ Login, Google Mail and Calendar.  TaskClone secures user token data with CakePHP-specific functions built atop PHP mcrypt.

Utility. Is the application compelling and/or indispensable?

Originality. Is the application unique and/or innovative?

How many of us take notes only to forget actionitems buried in those notes? Meetings? Lectures? How much time is spent rereading notes? Or worse, forgetting to reread at all?

 Although the simple goal was to stop forgetting things, TaskClone’s methods are unique in the Evernote universe.  TaskClone expands on concepts from Egretlist and TrackMyTasks to create something far more ubiquitous, extensible and powerful.  Rather than reinvent a wheel, TaskClone combines 3rd-party APIs, integrates open-source software and user-friendly design to build a service that is both powerful and seamless for the user.

 TaskClone provides peace of mind that if you enter it in Evernote once, it’ll be where you need it to take action.  Using the special syntax in many task apps, you can set reminders, categorize, delegate and prioritize tasks all without leaving Evernote.
