EIVA Server DOngle

Introduction EIVA has in November 2008 introduced a networked dongle solution for all offline sw products • NaviEdit • Contour • NaviModel • NaviPlot • Imaging This means that you may place an EIVA dongle in one computer (hereafter called the server) and access this from a number of workstations on the network – there must just be a TCP/IP connection between the computers. A dongle will be configured to support a number of licenses. This is a run-time number meaning that you may have the software installed on un-limited pc’s but only use a certain amount at the same time.

1 The Dongle The server dongle is configured slightly different from a single user dongle:

The 3 upper fields and the last field is identical to ordinary dongles, the above sample is a dongle for NaviEdit (field 1 is 2) in full version (field 2 is 10) with pipe option (field 3 is 1) The server part is identified in field 5-7. The two 99’s defines that it is a network server and the 165 defines the number of licenses. Based on the methods used by Wibu-Systems the number of licenses is defined as 165-99 + 1 – which gives 67.

2 Install at the server You must first of all install the Wibu key SW at the server – and here make sure to install the network parts. After that you’ll find a “WIBU-KEY, Network Server” in the start menu. Activate this.

It will either pop up as a dialogue

or as a program in the task-bar. We recommend that you run it as a service. A small test window can be opened from the task-bar:

There exists a more detailed monitor program WIBU-KEY Server Monitor, where you a.o. can see details on who’s logged in etc.

2.1 Communication The client and server communicate on TCP/IP on a port. If you are using firewall etc then it’s important that this port is opened through the network. The port number can be found at the WIBU-KEY control panel settings – Network:

The value defaults to 22347 – but it might be different so check it!

3 Use at a client On the client you install the WIBU software as if it was a normal EIVA package. And the dongle information is displayed as for an ordinary license:

After that it should work directly. If not then see section 3.1 and 3.2

3.1 Test the dongle You may test the dongle via the DisplayLock.exe program found on the EIVA CD and on most EIVA installed modules. Go to the bottom of the window

and press ”Check for network server” The software will then search the network until the server has been found.

The top part identifies the server (EIVA-TEACHER) and number of licenses (free and active) The lover part gives the details of the dongle (the serial number and the 10 flags)

3.2 Trouble shooting We have observed that the server dongle can’t be seen directly on some installations. Typically this may happen if the pc’s are separated by routers etc. In the test function you’ll see a search dialogue like this:

To overcome this problem you must specify which server to connect to. This is done in the WIBU key settings in the Control Panel:

Go to the Network section and type in the name (as EIVA-TAEACHER above) and press Add.
