eLearning Connections: Using virtual links between ITOs, Industry, School and Learners to build stronger career education options Allan Asbjorn Jon and Gavin Kidd
ABSTRACT Through developing partnerships with the ATTTO ITO, Air Fiordland and the 3D visualization industry catalyst company Nextspace, The Catlins Area School developed industry supported career based eLearning programmes for the Aviation industry that are delivered across New Zealand. Those innovations led to working with the Virtual Worlds software developers Outsmart and the development of virtualized learning systems for career based education. Taking on several additional partners The Catlins Area School and the ATTTO submitted a Trade Academy proposal to develop The New Zealand Virtual School as a public, online e-learning Trade Academy, or virtual school, serving learners across New Zealand and all over the world. The New Zealand Virtual School proposal, as a Virtual Trade Academy, is about developing strong community connectedness, relevant responses to curriculum, providing robust education programmes for enterprise, and putting students first through both the reduction of barriers to learning and the use of sound pedagogy. In order to achieve those goals we intend to employ a range of cutting edge ICT solutions. This paper describes the following:
The development of links between schools, ITOs and industry to deliver Aviation Studies through eLearning The use of Virtual Worlds to deliver industry based training The use of 3D visualization software to assist in teaching complex technical concepts An outline of the New Zealand Virtual School proposal
