Archiving plays a key role in loss prevention and business continuity. For firms using SAP solutions, it is essential that their archiving and storage capabilities work seamlessly with those applications. Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is an IT discipline for managing the lifecycle of business information from creation through destruction. ILM streamlines infrastructure by automating the placement, storage, retention, and function of live and legacy system information, while ensuring that this information is available to support compliance requirements, business analytics, and legal discovery. With SAP Information Lifecycle Management, a software component for SAP systems, enterprises can archive and set information retention rules from their SAP environment, enabling the retention of different business records for different periods of time according to policy or legal requirements. Documentum Archive Services for SAP provides a key component of an SAP ILM solution, with certified support for SAP Information Lifecycle Management 3.0. Documentum Archive Services for SAP stores information in Documentum Content Server to offload it from SAP production systems. Archive Services for SAP also extends and enforces the retention policies created in SAP ILM to this archived content. Additionally, Documentum will store and migrate these archives to multiple storage tiers based on aging, importance, and service level criteria, all transparent to the SAP business user. The result is an optimal and efficient SAP archive where information is preserved as required by business use, regulation, or policy. In the event of an audit, investigation, or litigation and subsequent e-discovery requests, Archive Services for SAP can suspend disposition and place content in a state of legal hold through the duration of the matter.
