Hillcroft College
About Residential Learning Students who study at Hillcroft often wish to make a positive change in their lives, develop their personal potential and increase their opportunities.
Hillcroft is a vibrant and innovative national residential college for women aged 19 plus, with no upper age limit. The College is housed in the former mansion built for Wilberforce Bryant, co-owner of Bryant and May’s Matches in 1877. It is set in 3 acres of secluded woodland gardens only 3 minutes walk from Surbiton station, which is 15-20 minutes from Waterloo, central London. Hillcroft has been supporting women to change their lives through education since 1920, so if you are looking for a new skill, direction or just want to improve your talents, Hillcroft can help you; no formal entry qualifications are required to start many of the courses at Hillcroft. 6 Hillcroft College
www.hillcroft.ac.uk
Information, advice and guidance is available to help you decide on the right pathway for you. The courses at Hillcroft are flexible and tailored to your needs, they aim to enhance your creative and intellectual skills, thus helping you to achieve your maximum potential. Our peaceful, secluded environment and supportive atmosphere is ideal for your studies, where you can make new friends and enjoy an educational break from the pressures of everyday life.
Hillcroft students come from a wide range of backgrounds, but many left school with no formal qualifications and fairly negative experiences of learning. Residence at the College throughout a course is an important part of the learning experience as it allows you to concentrate on your learning; the learning environment and facilities are open 24 hours a day. The common areas, gardens and childcare provision enable you to focus on your own development in a safe environment for both you
and your children. Hillcroft has been successfully running residential courses for 96 years.
Hillcroft provides: • Childcare • Kitchen and laundry facilities • TV and recreational facilities • Woodland gardens • Easy access to station and shops (only 20 minutes from central London) • An enrichment programme • Catering for different diets and faiths • Intensive study without distraction • Private rooms, night security • A unique learning experience

Childcare is normally provided by a local team of experienced Ofsted registered childminders (or we can help you find your own childcare arrangements subject to approval). Accommodation Hillcroft continues to improve standards. Although some of the accommodation remains basic, it is clean, comfortable and warm, all rooms contain fresh bed linen with bathrooms and toilets located within easy reach.
Mothers with children are accommodated in the same room. Should there be a need to accommodate you off-site, the Admissions staff will advise you prior to arrival. The rooms are prepared before your stay and fresh bed linen is supplied on a regular basis to longer staying residents. There is also a residents’ laundry with washing machine, dryer and iron; there is a student common room area with television and a student kitchen in both the main building and Powell House, where most women with children stay.
Food, Diet and Religious Requirements Hillcroft offer breakfast, lunch and evening meal menus including vegetarian prepared meals. We are happy to prepare gluten free or other special diets and cater for students who wish to fast during Ramadan or other religious festivals (please contact Admissions). Please note: We do not offer full meals on a Sunday evening, but there is a selection of snacks and sandwiches available. 49
