Hebrews: Big League Faith / Enoch: Play for His Pleasure | Hebrews 11:5-6 Mark Schatzman | Russell Dorch

Almighty and most merciful Father, whose power and whose love eternally work together for the good of Your children, give me grace this day to put my trust in You. O Father I pray— For faith to believe that You rule the world in truth and righteousness; For faith to believe that if I seek first Your Kingdom and righteousness, You will provide for all my lesser needs; For faith to take no anxious thought for tomorrow, but to believe in the continuance of Your past mercies; For faith to see Your purpose of love unfolding itself in today’s happenings; For faith to be calm and brave in face of such dangers as may meet me in the doing of my duty; For faith to believe in the power of Your love to melt my hard heart and swallow up my sin; For faith to put my own trust in love rather than in force, when other men harden their hearts against me; For faith to believe in the ultimate victory of Your Holy Spirit over disease and death and all the powers of darkness; For faith to profit by such sufferings as You call upon me to endure; For faith to leave in Your hands the welfare of all my loved ones. O You in whom all my fathers trusted and were not put to confusion, rid my heart now of all vain anxieties and paralyzing fears. Give me a cheerful and buoyant spirit, and peace in doing Your will; for Christ’s sake. Amen. (from A Diary of Private Prayer, John Baillie)

The Scripture readings this week are to be used in personal or group devotions. The teaching are from Hebrews and selected passages as we continue to examine faith through the walk of Enoch. 1. Based on what we’ve heard in the last few weeks, what would your definition of faith be?

Day 1 Faith’s Walk - Hebrews 10: 35-12:3; Genesis 5:21-24; Jude 1:4-16; Amos 3:1- 8

2. How does this definition of faith apply to Enoch and his walk with God? Who was he and how did he learn to walk with God?

3. In your own personal life, choose a defining moment when you chose to walk with God? Share the story.

4. What does Ephesians 5:1-13 tell us about how we are to walk with God? What is necessary in order to walk with God? What happened to Enoch during his walk with God?

Day 2 Faith’s Result - Hebrews 10:35-12:3; Ephesians 5:1-13

Day 3 Faith’s Fulfillment - Hebrews 10:35- 12:3; II Kings 2:1-12

5. By faith, Abel speaks beyond the grave. What is the significance? How is that a type of reward? Day 4 Faith’s Creation - Hebrews 10:35-12:3; Romans 1:20-25; 8:19-22 6. What rewards have you gleaned by faith? How does God reward faith? Give your personal examples.

7.

Last week, we asked, “What is the greatest challenge to your faith?” Have you identified it? How can we pray with you about it? Share insights you have gleaned from your daily reading of Hebrews 10:35-12:3 and other selected passages. Close with prayer for one another.

Day 5 Faith’s Draw - Hebrews 10:35-12:3; 4:15,16; 7:19- 28; 10:,21-24; James 4:8-10
