This is for evaluation purposes only and should not be considered as an abstract. • It is compulsory to have 1 chairperson, 1 co-chairperson and 4 speakers per session. • It is highly desirable that a symposium comprises no more than two speakers of the same nationality. • It is imperative that Chairpersons and proposers receive the acceptance of every speaker in their session prior to submission. • All members of the faculty of a symposium and workshop should be self-financed and registered to the Congress

AWARDS AND EARLY CAREER PSYCHIATRISTS’ PROGRAMME In keeping with the Congress’s focus on research in Europe, Early Career Psychiatrists will learn from a highly informative and diverse scientific programme with many opportunities to network with experts in their field. Early Career Psychiatrists’ attendance is encouraged by reduced registration and accommodation fees, and by a special annual Scholarship granted to five best applications, based on evaluation of CV, essay and recommendation letter. Moreover, four Research Prizes of €2,500 each will be awarded to early career psychiatrists working in Europe, who published the best scientific papers in 2011.

Following our tradition, the cities we visit for the European Congress of Psychiatry have a special relationship or history connected with psychiatry. Prague is no exception with names such as Sigmund Freud, Jan Jánský, Arnold Pick and Oskar Fischer. EPA will offer you a high-quality, multidisciplinary scientific programme that will provide a full review of the most important aspects of diagnosis and treatment in psychiatry and of the latest achievements in this field. Under the motto “Beyond Diversity Towards Harmony”, as a tribute to the EPA’s growing influence in Europe, Congress highlights will include presentations by outstanding European and international experts in Psychiatry. The scientific programme will be composed of plenary lectures, Pro & Con Debates, Symposia, Workshops, Free Communication Sessions, a dedicated Early Career Psychiatrists Programme, CME Academia courses and sponsored symposia organised by leading pharmaceutical companies. Clinicians and researchers are encouraged to take part in the exchange of knowledge and experience by contributing to the scientific programme of our Congress. Prague, the so called Golden Prague, Magical City of Bridges, City of One Hundred Spires and the Heart of Europe, is the capital city of the Czech Republic and has always played an important role in the history of Europe. Over the centuries scores of important individuals have paid their tribute to Prague. Its beauty and imposing architecture have enchanted the likes of: Mozart, Beethoven, Apollinaire, Dvor̂ák, Smetana, Tchaikovsky, Dostojevski, Rodin, Kokoschka, Einstein , Karl Popper, Franz Kafka as well as many others. Eleven centuries of historical events, building, artistic creation and city life, along with its beautiful natural setting, have created a unique atmosphere. It is an atmosphere that is grand and mysterious, as well as friendly and intimate, and that has always attracted tourists from all over the world.

CME ACADEMIA COURSES The European Congress of Psychiatry will serve the educational mission of the EPA by providing high-quality Continuing Medical Education Courses, covering all aspects of psychiatry. Fees are charged separately for the courses.

STATE-OF-THE-ART LECTURES The state-of-the-art lectures will have a strong clinical focus. They will provide a complete update on some significant aspects of current clinical treatments in European psychiatry as well as updates on the most recent developments in the respective field (time frame 2 to 5 years, depending on the topic). The state-of-the-art lectures will be delivered by top European or worldwide experts and will last 45 minutes.

PLENARY LECTURES The plenary lectures will have a strong scientific focus. They will be mainly theoretical and research-oriented. These lectures will be delivered by leading psychiatrists, basic scientists and other mental health professionals invited by the Scientific Committee. They will cover the major topics of the Congress theme.

PRO & CON DEBATES Debates will offer a lively and fruitful discussion on controversial issues. A chairperson will moderate whilst two speakers (proponent /opponent) will offer and challenge opinions on “hot topics”.

SYMPOSIA These 90 minute sessions selected by the Scientific Programme Committee will focus on specific topics in psychiatry, representing several points of view. The symposia include four presentations by international speakers and offer an opportunity for discussion.

WORKSHOPS The Accepted Workshops will be devoted to a specific topic and bring together experts in this field for an intensive discussion. These will be 90 minute working sessions. At least 50% of the time will be devoted to discussion.

The Scientific Programme will consist of the following:

FREE COMMUNICATIONS SESSIONS Authors are invited to submit abstracts, classified by topics. Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee and scheduled as oral or poster presentations.

POSTERS & E-POSTERS Authors are invited to present their new research findings or important ongoing research as posters related to one of the given topics. There is no limitation concerning the number of presented posters. Selected posters will have the opportunity to present a short oral presentation (2-3 slides) as well as upload their presentation to an E-archive.

SPONSORED SESSIONS Satellite Symposia and Luncheon Satellite Symposia will be organised by pharmaceutical companies in consultation with the Scientific Programme Committee. These sessions are fully integrated into the congress, but are sessions entirely designed, produced and driven by the pharmaceutical industries by an unrestricted educational grant.
