ERP Program Enterprise Resource Planning Configuration Fall Quarter 2010 Instructors Professor Tony Gerth and Bipin Prabhakar Operations & Decision Technologies Department Kelley School of Business, Bloomington
Course Description and Course Objectives In this course, we will explore how SAP can be configured to match the business requirements of an organization. Specific topics covered include: • Business Process Modeling • SAP solutions for industry verticals • Creating a straw-man organizational structure • Creating master data • Configuring SAP based on business rules and best practices • Testing
Hands-on Learning We will use the business scenario of a fictional company and will configure SAP to create the organizational structure, master data and the business rules necessary to perform the business processes specified in the requirements. Participants will use SAP ECC to build the SAP system for a company from scratch. We will use a design, configure, test procedure for each of the business processes (plan, procure, make, sell, control) specified in the requirements. The integration between the various SAP modules will be highlighted.
Class Communications Extensive use will be made of the various communications capabilities of the Angel system. These communications will include email, course announcements, and chat rooms. There will be one chat room session each week. The chat sessions have been scheduled for every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The chat sessions will be primarily tutorial sessions where we will work either through an issue or a topic. The chats are not mandatory but are highly recommended. Also, all chat sessions are recorded so you can always go back and check them out.
Required Readings The course will use a course readings package. The package is titled “Enterprise Systems - 3” and consists of various cases and articles. In addition, we will post additional readings on Angel as needed.
Assessment This course will have two assessment components: 1. SAP Exercises: You will have a set of SAP exercises to complete each week. It is very important that these assignments are completed on time. These assignments will account for 60% of your grade. 2. An Exam: There will be a hand-on exam on the SAP system in Week 12. This exam will count for 40% of the grade.
Grading Class grades will be based on the homework assignments, the forums and the exam. The final score (Out of 100) will be translated into a letter grade based on the following scale: Above 90% 80% to 90% 70% to 80% 60% to 70% Under 60%
