Eugene was a horseman, and stock raiser. Bred and trained horses, and managed a large ranch in North Dakota. He had a dray business at one time. In 1900, the family was in Hubbard County, Minnesota, after which the Tull family moved to Seminal Butte area about 1910 where the last 3 children were born. By 1914, the Tull family had located in Golden Valley, North Dakota Eugene and his wife separated sometime before the 1930 census, although a divorce was never filed. could not accept that, as his family had been Methodists for several generations, including 2 ministers. However, this was about the time they lost their daughter, and one wonders how much that had to do with the separation. Eugene moved to a farm near Arlee, Montana with his 2 sons, and continued raising horses. He passed his love of horses to his 2 sons, who participated in rodeos around the country. His wife Luella remained in Beach, North Dakota. How she supported herself and her daughters is not known, perhaps by sewing. Her oldest daughter was a seamstress, perhaps that skill passed from mother to daughter. Eugene’s WW11 draft file gave a description of black hair and gray eyes. His eyes were actually very pale blue and his complexion was so light, it seemed almost transparent. He never served in the military. He had one slightly protruding ear, apparent in the photo; unfortunately, the trait came down 5 generations, skipping the 4th. At the age of 79 ,going blind, and not wanting to be a burden to his family, he planned and paid for his funeral. The day he made the final payment, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the driveway of the mortuary. He had never gotten over the death of his youngest son, Robert, and talked of his youngest son often. (Robert died at the age of 19 in Missoula, Montana.) Eugene rests beside his son, not far from his in-laws, the Camerons in the oldest cemetery in Missoula. Eugene paid for his son’s headstone; a granddaughter has erected a matching stone for her grandfather. Eugene gave his first son the name Leslie honoring his uncle Leslie Ansel., Tull, his second son’s middle name was for his brother in law Anson Sliter. Eugene’s own middle name came from his step-grandfather, George Follett. Donated by Barbara Tull Dehle
