Kuala Lumpur, The government of Malaysia has recently passed the bill on Anti-Fake news through the Senate and this action has resulted a mixed in opinions and disturbances not only amongst Malaysians and the people from the media, surely from the international news, it has caused a stirred up amongst nations. From the news coverage and opinions from concerned nations, including President Trump has put in a very gentle manner that it has a potential impact on freedom of expression in Malaysia, as well as its global reach (of course in a very US centric way). Potential impact, really is an understatement. If anyone who is close in advocating Human Rights, we all know the bill has certainly violated The Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217 A). 17th September 1957, Malaysia had admitted as a Member State to the United Nations and its her obligations to Protect Human Rights, a fundamental action that UN has plea all her Member States to do. Having this bill passed, is a violation to the Declaration, Article 19 which states the following:

“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers”

Certainly, if we Malaysians think that we should not be influenced by the west on how we rule our country then let me bring all of us (Rakyat Malaysia) back to 31st August 1970 where our honourable second Prime Minister the late Tun Abdul Razak, whom happened to be the father of our current Prime Minister, has declared the 5 National Principles of the Country, under Rukunegara: Bahasa Malaysia Version

English Language Version

BAHAWASANYA NEGARA KITA MALAYSIA mendukung cita-cita hendak:

WHEREAS OUR COUNTRY, MALAYSIA nurtures the ambitions of:

• •

• •

• •

Achieving a more perfect unity amongst the whole of her society; Preserving a democratic way of life; Creating a just society where the prosperity of the country can be enjoyed together in a fair and equitable manner; Guaranteeing a liberal approach towards her rich and varied cultural traditions; and Building a progressive society that will make use of science and modern technology.

WE, HER PEOPLES, pledge our united efforts to attain these ends guided by these principles: • • • • •

BELIEF IN GOD LOYALTY TO KING AND COUNTRY THE SUPREMACY OF THE CONSTITUTION THE RULE OF LAW COURTESY AND MORALITY

Adapted from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rukunegara Current government has not only violated The Universal Declaration of Human Rights but it has also violated MALAYSIA vision in preserving democracy as stipulated in Rukunegara:

“Memelihara satu cara hidup demokratik” (“Preserving a democratic way of life”)

This was a fundamental principle that has brought Malaysia to where we are now (at least recognizing the good times where the government has brought peace and prosperity) but today, just like the Newton’s Third Law of motion, "For

every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction"

An example that I would like to quote will be the recent Corruption Perception Index 2017 [5][6]: Year
