Role Summary The Executive Director is responsible to deliver Food Matters Manitoba strategic and operational direction, workplace culture and stakeholder and community relations. At least 5 years experience in a senior leadership role in complex multi-stakeholder organizations Experience in initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services Experience in managing, leading and developing staff Experience in revenue generation through social enterprise, philanthropy, fundraising, grant and proposal writing Accomplished networker and relationship-builder, experienced in representing an organization to stakeholders Experience reporting to a volunteer board would be an asset

Position Title: Executive Director Position Overview Provision of overall leadership and management to advance Food Matters Manitoba strategic and operational direction, workplace culture and stakeholder and community relations. The Executive Director will lead implementation of Board strategy and policy in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The Executive Director is accountable for leading and directing the staff in effectively and efficiently carrying out the day-to-day affairs of Food Matters Manitoba (FMM) with the objective of achieving the FMM’s Strategic Priorities, as approved by the Board of Directors. Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Board Chairperson, the Executive Director is accountable for the following:

Overall strategic leadership and day-to-day operational management of all aspects of FMM. Leading the development and implementation of major strategic and fundraising projects. Advancing a positive and productive workplace culture that is consistent with FMM’s vision, mission and values. Cultivating, building and sustaining effective partnerships with stakeholders, donors, media, governments and other community partners. Building and maintaining a professional and collaborative relationship with the volunteer Board of Directors, developing sound advice, recommendations and reports to enable the Board to make sound strategic decisions and discharge its fiduciary duties. Ensuring the board is briefed on major issues and trends that could impact FMM’s strategic direction and operational sustainability. Ensuring that the Board receives all relevant and appropriate information to inform Board Meetings and policy decisions. Providing key oversight and financial control of the organization, including preparation of annual operating plans to align with the Strategic Priorities.

Qualifications Education • Related Bachelor’s Degree (e.g., Business Administration in Not-for-Profit management, community social work, social geography) or • Equivalent combination of education and experience. Performance Expectations Leadership • Provide organizational input to the Board of Directors’ strategic planning process and implement Organization’s Strategic Plan. • In collaboration with the members of the team, and in the context of the Organization’s Strategic Plan, develop the annual operating plan, including goals and objectives for the Organization, and submit these to the Board of Directors for their approval. The Annual Operating Plan describes how the organization will meet the strategic priorities of the Organization and of the Board. • Ensure that the Organization’s policies are understood, and properly interpreted and administered by everyone in the Organization. • Prescribe the specific limitations of authority of subordinates regarding policies, contractual commitments, expenditures, etc., and review and approve the appointment, employment, transfer, and termination of all employees, recognizing approval of the Food Matters Executive Director Position

Board of Directors will be required for all positions reporting directly to the Executive Director. Board Relations and Engagement • Provides advice and expertise to the Chair and the Board on strategic policy issues, emerging trends and issues which have an impact on FMM’s mission and its ability to fulfill it. • With the board chair, prepare and present regular performance reports, including monthly operational and financial reports to the Board. Such reports should include an analysis of how the organization is performing in achieving its goals and objectives. • Notify the board of any major deviations against approved plans and significant risks to FMM’s performance, along with mitigating strategies and solutions. • Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of committees of the Board of Directors, as determined by the Board. • Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for review and approval by the Board of Directors. Relationships and Community Engagement • Maintain relationships with funding sources and prepare funding proposals. • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the Organization and between its partners and stakeholders. • Working with the board and appointed staff team, expand program funding opportunities and develop and implement development strategies. • Establish and maintain senior level relationships with relevant stakeholder groups. Other • Ensure the adequacy and proper utilization of services provided by the Organization and resolve any conflicts arising between operating groups, staff and partners, as necessary. • Plan for the development of human resources within the Organization and establish and maintain programs that will encourage successful future management of the organization. • Act as spokesperson for the Board of Directors, as determined by the Board of Directors. • Carry out such other duties and responsibilities, as determined by the Board of Directors • The Executive Director is expected to develop a “self”-work plan that includes a prioritized list of duties and tasks, and accomplishments in meeting these performance expectations and the implementation of the Organization’s Operating Plan. The Executive Director will also oversee staff work plans including duties, tasks, and accomplishments towards the implementation of the Organization’s Operating Plan.
