FAIRFIELD PARK COMMUNITY UPDATE Since the last community update, we have been working hard to deliver on the work we outlined at July’s parish council meeting and take further steps to engage with the local community. Ongoing engagement We promised to improve our communications and engagement with residents and the parish council moving forward. As part of this we will now be producing regular community updates, like this one, to let you know how we’re getting on delivering the permanent odour solution. Alongside representatives of Fairfield Parish Council and Central Bedfordshire Council, we have established a working group which meets every two weeks. This group provides a forum between our site team and key local stakeholders so that we can give updates and discuss our maintenance work and the progress of the odour scheme. Finally, Derek Manning, Fairfield Parish Council’s Odour Specialist, recently visited Letchworth WRC to shoot a video giving us his thoughts on the permanent solution. We’re delighted that Derek approves of the work we’re doing and that he shares our confidence that scheme will resolve the odour issues. You can view this on Fairfield Park Parish Council’s website and their Facebook page. We are continuing to have frank and open discussion with the parish council about the works and any ongoing concerns, and we promise to continue this moving forward.
REPORTING AN ODOUR Although we are acutely aware of the issues on site and are working hard to resolve them, we are continuing to monitor customer complaints. Spikes in complaints help us to pinpoint spikes in odours and make further improvements on site. Please report any significant changes in odours to us by:

Fairfield Park Community Update
FAIRFIELD PARK COMMUNITY UPDATE Permanent Scheme Update Since our representatives attended July’s parish meeting, we have been cracking on with the delivery of the permanent solution. So far, we have: • Created a site odour model with new equipment. This will allow us to model where odours might take place depending on things like the weather. • Removed redundant pipework and cables from the area where we are working on the new scheme. • Used ground-penetrating radar to scan for existing cables and pipes in the ground, and our teams have dug around these by hand to create a 15m trench. • Backfilled this trench having laid the new pipework for the upgrades. • Emptied the tanks which have been identified as the source of odours. • Ordered all components for the upgrades on time and we are continuing to apply pressure to our suppliers in order to get this scheme delivered as soon as possible. • Received confirmation that the new odour control unit is manufactured and will be delivered shortly. A lot of work has taken place over the last few weeks and we promise there will be no let up in our efforts. We are pleased to say that we are on track to deliver this scheme on time. Site Maintenance Update In the meantime, we continue to monitor and improve our existing operations as and where we can in order to minimise odour risk. Previously, we had issue with the performance of our diesel Bloodhound units, which have previously failed and caused an increase in odours on site. However, we recently took delivery and installed new, more resilient electric bloodhound units, which significantly reduces the likelihood of future failure.

PEACEMAKER™ HIGHLY COST EFFECTIVE MULTI-LAYER DEEP BED DRY CHEMICAL SCRUBBER
THE PEACEMAKER IS A MULTI-LAYER DEEP BED DRY CHEMICAL SCRUBBER, WHICH UNLIKE ACTIVATED CARBON ADSORBTION FILTERS IS UNAFFECTED BY HIGH LEVELS OF MOISTURE WITHIN THE ODOROUS GASES OFF WASTE WATER AND SEWAGE TREATMENT PROCESSES. UNLIKE CARBON, THE VARIOUS PEACEMAKER DRY SCRUBBING MEDIA REMOVES ODOUR VIA CHEMICAL REACTION RATHER THAN ADSORPTION AND SO WATER MOLECULES (RELATIVE HUMIDITY) WITHIN THE ODOROUS GAS OFFWET PROCESSES DO NOT FILL AND USE UP ANY AVAILABLE ODOUR REMOVALS CAPACITY OF THE MEDIA. THIS IS WHY PEACEMAKER SCRUBBERS OFFER A MUCH LONGER SERVICE LIFE THAN CARBON ADSORPTION FILTERS
